Looking for a clean, safe, and reasonably priced hotel option in central Caracas? The Hotel Inter is a perfect fit for those criteria, providing solid value at very little expense to the traveller. While you are bound to come across many places that double as "love hotels" while in Venezuela, the Hotel Inter is not one of them, and that being said, is much cleaner and less dangerous than some of its rent-by-the-hour counterparts.
I stayed here in June 2008, and found the rooms to be above average in quality for two star options in Venezuela. My room was well stocked with a wide double bed, a desk and chair, full closet with drawers, a spotless bathroom with shower and bidet, a small television, powerful air conditioner, and a jug of ice cold purified drinking water. There was also an in-room phone, which is very rare in Venezuela.
The price of this room was a mere 70 Venezuelan Bolivars (around $33.00 USD at official exchange rate, and less than $30 at the street exchange rate).
All told, I found this hotel to be a very comfortable and pleasant option. The inky negative aspects of this hotel were the very hard mattresses (think wood board hard) and the lack of remote control for the television. I'm a fairly easy to please person, but others may find the comfort level of the beds to be excruciating at best. The air conditioner worked well and kept the room at a very balmy 60 degrees. Street noise may be a problem for some, but that is a given no matter where you are staying in central Caracas.
