Fun in Boston

Overview

Quote:
Because there are so many colleges in Boston, there's a great deal of young people. If you're young and want to party, Boston is a great place to go. It is also a beatiful European-style city that is interesting to explore and offers plenty of culture for the older crowd.

Quick Tips:

Weather in Boston can change dramatically in a very short amount of time. Be prepared for anything.

Best Way To Get Around:

Driving in Boston can most definitely be a challange. Due to the city's age, there's no rhyme or reason to streets and intersections. Unless you have a GPS navigation system, it is very easy to get lost.

Sheraton Boston

Hotel | "Sheraton Boston Hotel & Towers"

Quote:
The hotel is located near Prudential Center. It is linked inside to the Prudential shopping mall, which is in turn linked to the Copley Square mall, which is in turn linked to the Westin Copley Square and the Marriott Copley Square. You could potentially walk between all these buildings without going outside. The Copley Hilton is across the street from the hotel. The hotel has two towers. The rooms are nothing spectacular. They range in size from small to average-sized for a large metropolitan hotel. The hotel is easily accessible via the Mass Pike (I90) Prudential exit (only from the eastbound direction, if I recall). There is an indoor pool at the hotel.

The single tower of this hotel houses nice rooms. I had what was probably a Junior Suite or a Guest Office corner room. I came in to a small "outer" section that had the desk and the entrance to the restroom. The bedroom had a murphy bed (bed folded up into the wall), a sofa and another desk. The hotel is linked to the Copley Place shopping mall, from where you can go to the Prudential Center shopping mall as well as the Marriott and the Sheraton without ever going outside. The hotel has a small indoor swimming pool.

Ritz-Carlton Hotel Boston

Hotel | "The Ritz Carlton"

Quote:
I stayed at this hotel several times on business. This is an older building (1925), and the hotel maintains old-style service. The staff wears white gloves and is extremely helpful and courteous. There are 3 elevators, one of which still has a manual door and is staffed by an elevator operator. Because this is a Ritz-Carlton, everything is plush and luxurious. Rooms are spacious. Food is good, but quite expensive. The hotel seems to be in need of serious renovation though. I saw noticeable wear and tear on the furniture, some of the bath facilities and some interior hotel space. It is located directly across the street from the Boston Common, which is basically a large park/garden type area. ...Read More

The Westin Waltham Boston

This hotel is located about 25 minutes from downtown Boston, off the Totten Pond Road exit of I95. It is about 10 minutes from Brandeis University. The hotel was recently renovated and has nicely sized rooms. I stayed in a regular room as well as a Jr. Suite. The suite, during my recent stay, was quite nice. A small living room with a sofa, armchair, TV and entrance to the restroom. The bedroom was separated by a door, and had a large window. There was a desk-like contraption with a comfortable chair, another TV and a large, comfortable bed. The hotel has a small indoor pool, hot tub and a sauna (dry). There is a restaurant that serves buffet-style brunch on Sundays. Free self-parking is ava...Read More

Lansdowne St.

Attraction

This is a short strip of bars, clubs and basically all sorts of night entertainment. It is also along Fenway Park. Driving and parking can be difficult, though there is a parking garage right on Landsdown St, as well as several parking lots nearby. It is not far from a T (subway/tram) stop, though I'm not sure which line or the name of the stop. The street is packed with young people in the evenings, regardless of weather. There are a number of clubs to suit all interests. There's also an entertainment place called Jillian's (see separate entry) that has bars, arcades and pool.

Jillian's of Boston

Attraction | "Jillian's"

Maybe "date spots" isn't the best location, but it was the closest I could come to categorizing this place. This is a multi-level entertainment "universe" as the website calls it (see http://www.jilliansboston.com). There's an arcade-type section with all sorts of games where you can win tickets to exchange for prizes. There's a restaurant. There's a huge section of pool tables. Basically you can spend hours at this place. It is right on the corner of Ipswich and Lansdown, which is basically bar/club central. Come here on a date, come with a friend, come with a group. You're guaranteed to have fun.
