How did self-proclaimed “Sin City” also become the wedding capital of the world? Supposedly the ease and low cost of attaining a marriage license here had caused an increased demand to be married in the area. Operating under a “if you build it, they will come” mentality, Vegas developers capitalized on the increased wedding demand and started concocting plans for every type of wedding venue imaginable. Now, the venues themselves and their crazy themes are also reasons why Vegas is a popular wedding destination. Do you want to be married by Elvis or Captain Kirk? Here you can be. The Drive-Thru wedding is popular, but so is the Drive-By (the minister rides in on a foldout platform van and pro...Read More

Hotel | "Treasure Island"

I was very excited to stay at Treasure Island in Las Vegas. I assumed due to its proximity to the best hotels in Vegas(the Venetian, Mirage, Caesar’s, and Bellagio are all somewhat right-next-door) that this would be a great hotel to stay in as well. I was mistaken. From the time we arrived to the time we left I was unimpressed with "TI" (as Treasure Island is commonly nicknamed).Arriving at TI took a bit more effort than the other hotels I have stayed at in Vegas as it was the last shuttle bus stop on the route. I would recommend taking a cab from the airport unless you don’t mind a good hour-and-a-half to spent dropping off the other shuttle patrons. Once we arrived at TI, the shuttle bu...Read More

The Palms Hotel and Casino is one of the newer establishments in Las Vegas, but it is quickly gaining a reputation as a haven for celebrities, the hip crowd, and all twenty-something tourists with weekend fun in mind. When I first heard of the deluxe party suites at the Palms, I thought they would be the perfect location for our wedding-reception/party. It turned out I had a great idea- as a few months later, MTV had the same idea and hosted their Video Music Awards here. Unfortunately, the increased publicity that these suites have received in recent months has only made the cost go up exponentially. Good thing I had booked one before this happened. The Palms is split into tw...Read More

Restaurant | "Acceptable Group Dining"

Arranging a family dinner with twelve guests is harder than you would think in Las Vegas. Unfortunately all of the circumstances surrounding this dinner were not in my favor- I was looking for restaurants available for Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend (an extremely popular time to visit Vegas), several in our party had dietary restrictions, and many restaurants in Vegas require special pre-selected menus and pre-payment for groups larger than 10 people (which I did not have time to coordinate). After a thorough area search via the internet I stumbled upon Sushi Roku which is located in Caesar’s Forum Shops conveniently on the strip. The on-line menu seemed appealing enough, most of th...Read More

How to choose a wedding venue amidst all of these Vegas options you ask? All the hotel options seemed either too cheesy or too ritzy for me, and Elvis Presley was vetoed by my fiancé. That left us with about a billion chapels to choose from, so I started to eliminate options by crossing off the chapels that begat unfortunate celebrity marriages. "The Chapel of the Bells" was listed in the top ten wedding chapels on citysearch, and I decided that Kelly Ripa and Earnest Borgnine were alright celebrities to follow. The $380 package I reserved at this chapel included limo transportation to the courthouse before our wedding and to and from the chapel for the ceremony. It also included a bridal ...Read More

Attraction | "Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum"

Okay, I’ll admit it: I’m a sucker for kitsch! When I first saw previews of Madame Tussaud’s wax museum on a television show, I immediately wanted to visit. I had never been to any of the other locations that this Museum has worldwide (NY City and London are two that come to mind), as I had been previously convinced by others that they were tourist traps. In Las Vegas there was nobody to stop me though, so it made the list of attractions I had to see.Whoever thought Madame Tussaud’s is just for tourists might be right, but they also are missing out on a ton of fun. As soon as I entered the museum I was greeted by three of my favorite celebrities; Johnny Depp, Hugh Hefner, and the Rock. It o...Read More
