It was 10:30am. For us, the crack of dawn. We were just starting a beach day. A joyous event we partake of regularly. We needed food and a table on the sand. Mariscos Los Abuelos was open. They offered the afore mentioned items plus umbrellas and beer to boot. We settled in for the day. This is a very casual sort of place with a ramshackle palapa roof covering a tiny kitchen. On the beach are plastic tables and chairs shaded by umbrellas. No decor, no frills - absolutely nothing to detract from the view. Before we had been noticed we were already plotting our feeding frenzy. We know the menu by heart – fish fillet and shrimp. I have a new favorite restaurant! On the beach, between the Burros Bar and Epoca, in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, is a tiny little place called La Langosta Loca (The Crazy Lobster). There are a couple of plastic tables inside and plenty more with umbrellas almost all the way to the water. Either place you can wiggle your toes in the sand and hear the surf. When we wandered in, the owner, a very enthusiastic man, made a fuss over us, gave us his "best" table, brought us our drink...Read More

Planning to meet friends and listen to some good music at Canto del Mar we headed off to the beach in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone. The restaurant was packed, not a seat to be had. We went next door to Mariscos Maritza where not a single table was occupied. The restaurant is on the beach just off of Plaza Lazaro Cardenas. There is a tiny kitchen where you will see scores of shrimp skewers cooking away. On the sand are a handful of red plastic tables and chairs with red umbrellas to match. This is the extent of Mariscos Maritza. We sat down, dug our toes into the sand and enjoyed the music just a few yards away in the place next door. The waitress came over with menus, after qu...Read More
