12/30/2007: Las Palmas de Gran Canarias Las Palmas is the largest city in the Canaries (400,000 in the city center), and is a major resort area and seaport as well. Our tour explored the southern beaches which comprise the largest holiday complex in all of Spain. The first is San Augustin, a quiet area of apartment buildings serving retired couples and families. A walkway leads from San Augustin to the larger and livelier Playa del Ingles. This sprawling resort contains many high rise hotels, nightclubs, discos, restaurants, and bars.
