A February 2008 trip to San Francisco by hastings0014

My husband took me to San Francisco for a special Valetine's Trip this year. We mixed a little business with pleasure and had an absolute blast!!

Hotel | "Hilton Financial District"

The accommodations were absolutely wonderful. The room was clean, and had a breathtaking view of telegraph hill and Coit Tower, along with St. Mary's Cathedral and the bay on either side of Coit Tower. The breakfast was wondeful at the hotel restaurant, and the hotel bar in the evening served great drinks as well. I loved the coffee with Bailey's, not hard to make, but the right mix is essential!

Also, the lobby has aquariums filled with eccentric fish and lots of seahorses. It also has a huge map of the city to help guide you on your daily excursions and orient you and your party.

This hotel is located within walking distance from tons of essential San Fran must-sees. I loved it.

Cafe Niebaum-CoppolaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Coppola's"

Coppola's is a great little restaurant on Columbus. It is owned by Francis Ford Coppola and his studio is actually located on the seven floors above the restaurant. They have a good selections of wines and drinks at the bar if that's all you want. But the menu is great as well. It has somewhat of a NYC deli feel due to the black and whites covering the walls of all of the actors and actresses that have either graced the building or have worked under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola. It is a casual restaurant with semi-expensive prices. The antipasto salad is a great try with various cheeses and olives and such. Also, the other must-try is the spaghetti and meatballs. Not only for flavor, but the size of the meatballs is huge!!! They also have specials that are not always on the menu or on the specical board. When we were there they had a steak called "The Hangar Steak." It wasn't listed anywhere - just made known to us by the waiter. It was a lean cut of meat, pretty good flavor, and not bad for an Italian restaurant.

This tour was fabulous! I had a great tour guide named Tatiana. She was so knowledgeable about the sights and city and could answer any quesions at all that you had. The most wonderful thing about this tour was that the tour guide is a separate person from the bus driver -- so you are not subjected to fast, quick synopses of the sights. It was also considered a walking tour. You actually get off the bus to take your pictures and walk around special areas of interest. There was an additional lunch stop in Sausolito (this was the San Fran city tour). They also have Miur Woods tours and winery tours. I highly recommend this tour. It is so much more than you could see yourself in a day there. An added bonus is that the tour guide will take as many pics of you and yours as you wish - so you can be in the pictures that you want!!

Attraction

This place is just awesome. We went on the last tour in the evening and were there as dusk fell. It was an awesome sight, especially coming from a criminal justice family. There are some extras that come with the night tour - so I highly suggest this time frame. Tour everything that you can here - you don't want to miss any of the details. Be sure you get to see the hospital upstairs. Sometimes it closes early - so if you are running behind on your audio tour - skip ahead to it. It is worth seeing. It is a beautiful ride over and back and great views from the island as well. Take your camera and lots of pictures!! You'll be glad you did later!
