The tour of the Tower of London, narrated dramatically by the beefeaters, strolling through Hyde Park, seeing the fountains and Speakers Corner, shopping at Harrods, viewing the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, experiencing the history of Windsor Castle, cruising the Thames, grabbing a brew at the pub Shakespeare frequented, seeing CATS where it originated, at the theater in the round, with front row seats, wishing I could try on the crown jewels, seeing the Queen's flag fly, meaning she was in residence, enjoying a banquet where kings dined at Hampton Court Palace with the grand finale of a bagpiper on the roof playing AMAZING GRACE at sunset as we left the grounds.Quick Tips: Sta...Read More

Take a hike through Hyde Park for a unique picture of London at leisure. Winding walkways lead to exquisite fountains and pretty flowers. Stop for a picnic, speak your mind at Speakers Corner, or just watch the show of those who will on Sunday afternoons. A great place to sit a spell on the benches interspersed throughout the property for people watching.

This is where it originated, the musical CATS, and to get to see it here first, at theater in the round with front row seats, was a highlight! The cast still had some original members, and they are very gifted and made the play come alive. Our girls were mesmirised. Because the stage rotated, we could see all the very personable cats.

The highlight of our trip was here. Rented exclusively for our small group, the queen of Denmark had just gotten married here. We had the run of the place, taking in at our leisure, the art, the furnishings, the history of this awesome castle. A banquet was served in the dining hall, where past kings had feasted. Our daughters, dressed in period costumes, handed out roses to the ladies in huge overflowing baskets. We had roasted chicken, souffled potatoes, English peas while our eldest quoted Puck in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by Shakespeare. The staff shared ghost sightings held very seriously. The grand finale was hearing the bagpiper, perched rooftop, playing AMAZING GRACE by sunset, as we exited th...Read More

Portobello Road Market

Attraction | "Portabello Rd Market"

We got up at the crack of dawn, for that is when the bargins are to be found. This giant flea market is supposedly a magnet for pickpockets, so we hid our $$. It was fun, I bought an easel, which I found at home several years later for a cheaper price, and a old book of Winnie and Pooh. I would not go back, but try another local market. However, I would not want to miss the experience.

Red costumed beefeaters dramatically recount the atroscities committed here with flourish. They share the curse of the ravens which hover around the property. You are shown the torturous instruments and cells that seem haunted by their history. It is a highlight. You can easily imagine the heads speared on poles as warning to any others who might buck the system.
