Sweets & Savories

Restaurant | "Sweets and Savories"

The first time I walked into this restaurant, I was so surprised at how intimate the space was. I felt as if I walked into a dark and rustic kitchen in the French countryside. The room was dimly lit and there were no more than 20 tables in the dining room. The cozy bar is at the center of the room and the bar tender is always smiling. The chef hand selects his produce and meat according to what's best that season and offers daily specials. If you're looking for an all out culinary experience, go on a Monday night where they offer $10 off of their 5-course and 7-course tasting menus. Another highlight on Monday night is BYOB night with no corkage fee which is a fantastic way to enjoy wine wi...Read More

Peep (Le)

Restaurant | "Le Peep"

Quote:
Le Peep is my favorite neighborhood weekend brunch and weekday lunch spot. The restaurant on Washington Blvd is very large and always busy with neighborhood regulars. Think of Le Peep as an upscale Denny's with more healthy offerings and specialty beverages. For breakfast you could start light and just have a latte and cinnamon roll (called the cinnamonster, so you might have to share). Other starters include the breakfast banana split and the fruit crepes. On the weekends, to recover from a sligh hangover, I enjoy going to Le Peep to get my endless coffee fix and the Spa Combo which consists of a short stack of whole wheat blueberry pancakes, scrambled egg whites, two turkey sausage links, a...Read More

Marche

I am the luckiest girl in the world to have Marche only a block away from my West Loop condo. Marche is one of the Lettuce Entertain You group's many wonderful restaurants known for decadent and colorful themed decor, excellent service and hearty meals. Marche never fails - especially with their bi-weekly prix-fixe (offered on Monday and Wednesday) which allows you to choose any appetizer, entree and dessert from the menu for $29. ANY. No gimmicks. I like to bring friends who are in town for work to this fun restaurant and they leave raving about their meal.Do not fear, if you cannot make it on a Monday or Wednesday, this menu is moderately priced so even ordering three courses a la carte ...Read More

The Drawing Room

Restaurant | "Drawing into the Drawing Room"

Quote:
I braved the arctic cold temperature, got all dolled up and had dinner with some girlfriends at The Drawing Room at Le Passage in the trendy Gold Coast neighborhood. The basement restaurant is warmly lit with cushy seats, glossy tables and of course the Gold Coast requisite of a good looking staff. While waiting for our table we ordered some cocktails at the small bar. The cocktail menu is small but daunting so we had to ask the bartender...ahem, I mean mixologist for a recommendation. I didn't want anything sweet or too strong, so she suggested the Gloom Lifter (Jameson Irish, Hennessy VS, fresh lemon-sour, and fresh raspberries). She walked us through the process which was actually very interesting t...Read More

One Sixty Blue

Restaurant | "Restaurant Week: Onesixtyblue"

Quote:
The last time I went to Onesixtyblue my boyfriend at the time and I ended up spending $175. It was definitely worth every penny, so I was excited to see what they had in store for us here. I met up with two old co-workers and we started out at the bar to have a glass of wine. We were seated and the waiter went through the restaurant week menu and offered us the house specialty: baked goat cheese while we looked through the menu to make our decisions. We went ahead and ordered it and spent some time catching up instead of looking at the menu! Our server was more than gracious and came back a third time to take our order.1st course: Two of us ordered the parmesen gnocchi. A good sized porti...Read More
