Unnamed Hamburger Stand

After partying at La Nasa, and talking to a local Viequean Hector, an intoxicating and overwhelming aroma lifted through the air and tickled our noses like a feather in the wind. Immediately Hector said that while in Vieques, it would be a sin not to try the 3 Pound Monster, a newly created island delicacy. Located right next to La Nasa was a small, 3 person manned tent with a grill and enough meat to feed all of Puerto Rico for some time. So I walked over to this stand to see what all the fuss was about, and since we were drinking our dinner, a bit to eat sounded like a smart and sound idea. After talking with the chef for a minute, I figured out that the 3 Pound Monster is (now plea...Read More

El Quenepo Restaurant

While we were waiting for our BioBay tour to start, we all decided to get together for dinner in Esperanza. Now, finding parking in town can be a little tricky, but we lucked out and found a spot right in front of a place called El Quenepo Restaurant. Although that wasn’t our planned dinner destination, since the parking spot was right in front, it seemed like the logical spot to dine. The restaurant itself is a beautiful open establishment with elegant prison bar style windows, but don’t let that scare you, it is one of the nicest restaurants on the island. Although the meal was a bit pricy for six people (around $240 total, including tip) it was totally worth the price. I ordered t...Read More

La Nasa

Attraction

When you first come into Esperanza, off to the left, there is a small, trailer sized bar along the water that is THE local hotspot, La Nasa. After an evening of dinner at home and relaxing, we decided to head into Esperanza for a couple of cocktails. We figured, since we were there, we might as well start our evening off at La Nasa and then go bar hopping. However, when we first got to La Nasa, and I mean literally within five minutes of getting out of the car, the heavens opened and we were drenched by the heaviest rain I have seen in a while. And since this downpour was coming down so hard, we decided to stay at La Nasa, and with the prices, there really wasn’t any reason to leave. ...Read More

Duffy's

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction

After going to St. Thomas countless times over the years, the name Duffy’s really stands out for me, so when we first got to Esperanza and I saw Duffy’s smack in the middle of the town, I knew we would end up there soon. And low and behold, we were there on our third evening in Vieques with drinks on the mind. I found out from talking to the bartender that this Duffy’s was owned by the same guy who owns the one on St. Thomas. In fact, he also owns Banana’s, which is right next door Duffy’s. He unfortunately passed away last year, but the island did him a great service with an all island tribute and celebration. I heard it was a phenomenal week of partying and everyone loved it.
