I love Paris...anytime!

A travel journal to Paris by PaulH

Paris is so accessible from here in London, I just keep going back!

  • 3 reviews
Too many to list: Watch the Bastille day fireworks, lounge in the Jardin de Luxembourg or Tuilleries and read the paper, venture to Versailles and stroll around the gardens...

Quick Tips:

Eiffel Tower. It's got to be seen, but you can sometimes be stuck for hours trying to get up in high season, and the view isn't wonderful. You're far better off going up the Arc de Triomphe, in the centre of Paris

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking. The metro is ridiculous. Although you're never more than 400 yards from a metro station entrance, the platform can often be a long, long way from the entrance!

Hotel | "D'Espagnes"

"Clean and functional" is how I would describe the d''Espagnes. It''s really quite tricky to find and, as ever, needs about three changes on the metro to get anywhere! Breakfast was nothing special, but the location and price are pretty good. We booked through British Airways and got a preferential rate.

Seine Boat Tours / Dinner CruiseBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Seine River Cruise/Dinner"

There are loads of companies offering "Bateaux-mouches" tours on the Seine. I'm a particular fan of having dinner on one of the boats. Of all the companies, I recommend "Bateaux Parisiens" for lunch/dinner cruises and "Canauxrama" for its more adventurous trips outside the city.

Going at night is as impressive as during the daytime, as both banks of the Seine are brilliantly lit. Notre Dame, l'Hotel de Ville and the Eiffel Tower (amongst others) are famous sights all in close proximity to the river and it's a great way to orientate yourself if you're new to Paris
