I've been to Split 3 times now and at least on the middle trip I wasn't sick. For some reason, going into Split seems to give me a sinus infection. Pity, really, because it means I haven't been able to sample the multitude of restaurants like I want to. Still, I've managed to make a pretty good dent. On the last trip I took with my husband, I was pregnant as well as sick and it made for an interesting trip. I was also craving pizza a lot, but I guess that's neither here nor there.
Quick Tips:
Things I loved about Split…
1. the ice cream I had in the palace (several times...a day)
2. the goulash I had at a small local café
3. the shops tucked neatly away inside the palace walls
4. the open-aired market first thing in the morning when the vegetables are fresh
5. watching the boats on the water while curled up on a bench in the sun reading a mystery novel.Best Way To Get Around:
There are buses that run to Split from Dubrovnik and Sarajevo. You can also take a train from Zagreb, but it doesn't go any further south than Split. From Split, you can take boats to the neighboring islands such as Hvar, Korcula, and Brac.
