This was our first trip to the FAVC in Cancun. After making the reservations I started reading about the resort online and saw many mixed reviews - from excellent to never again.

Having stayed at their resort in Cabo we expected more from the resort than what we found. But we were ultimately satisfied with our stay.

At check-in we went to our room and found it facing north looking at the new concrete walls of another building and a stagnet pool of water. We asked to be moved and were quickly accomodated with an oceanview overlooking the pool area.

The one-bedroom suite was very spacious and had everything we needed. The room always had a musty smell to it but that can be found in many areas of the tropics. Pack a couple room deoderizers and you'll never notice.

Felix "Meowww" the Cat, the resident program host, is an exceptionally likeable and entertaining guy. He always kept us laughing in the afternoons. The rest of the staff were receptive to any of our needs and were always friendly and pleasant to speak with.

The resort has a basic convienence store with decent prices and internet service. They have a well equipped exercise room for their size, you just need to plan a good time to use it. Afternoons were always the least crowded.

The pool area and swim up bar are both excellent, though the water was pretty cool for the daytime temperatures. We only had one meal at the restaurant, breakfast, and it was satisfying though nothing special.

The location of the resort is excellent for shopping, dining and entertainment, all of it which is within a 15 minute walk. Another 15 minutes on the local bus will take you to more of the same at the 11km mark in the hotel zone.

I recommend the FAVC if you are spending most of your time getting out and around and not spending much time in your room; or if you just want to relax at the pool away from the crowds.

If you are looking for the ultimate in highend accomodations it is best to look elsewhere. Read Less

EXCELLENT!!!

Having been on the Zip Line in PV we sought out a simliar tour in Cancun.

The Selvatica Zip Line Adventure is well worth the trip. After a shuttle bus ride to the site, in the jungle, we were outfitted with our gear. After a short class on the do's & don'ts of zip lining we set off.

Selvatica provides you with 11 zip lines as you move through the jungle. Once we took the ladder up to the first station we never touched the ground until we were finished. We started with a couple of "slower" lines to get the group familiar with the technique but we quickly progessed to "FAST" lines. The Frau and I both elected to go upside down on one of the lines, not to worry, one of the staff follows you to slow you down at the end of the cable.

After about 45 minutes on the lines we all picked out a mountain bike for a trail ride to a private cenote. I couldn't belive how many people forgot out to ride a bike - it definitely ruined the old adage for me.

At the cenote we spent about an hour in the water. If you felt adventurous you could zip line into the water; jump off a cliff (had to do it three times so my wife could get a picture); or climb down a ladder to the water. The water was a little cold but after the zip lines and bike ride it felt great.

Another trail ride back to the admin building and the staff served us a lite mexican lunch which was excellent itself. After lunch you had the opportunity to purchase a picture of you zipping through the jungle or you could purchase a DVD of the days activities which was delivered to my hotel the next day.

The only bad part of the whole adventure was it ended.

Selvatica is located halfway down the highway between the hotel zone and Playa Del Carmen and then another 19km down a decent rode through the jungle. The trip length varies by the location of your hotel. We were at the 8.5km mark so everyone else on our shuttle was dropped off first. It was still under an hour. Each shuttle would hold 11 passengers and was quite comfortable. Read Less

We enjoyed both but I would recommend splitting them up into different trips.Xelha is a protected reserve offering snorkling, tubing and a dolphin experience. It is an All-Inclusive park that includes your snorkling gear ($20 deposit) and several restaurants where you can just sit, eat and drink if you prefer. The dolphin experience does have a charge but since we didn't have the time to do it I can't remember the cost.We had a good time however since it was a combined tour we didn't get to spend enough time at Xelha.
