I have now visited Dubrovnik 3 times and have found something new to discover every time. It truly astounds me.

Everything you've heard about Dubrovnik is true. It truly is an amazing place. It's almost completely recovered from the war and you have to look really hard to even see any traces that it was even ever there to begin with. The architecture is gorgeous, the water perfectly blue, and there is a general laid back atmosphere that makes it a good place to relax. It's still inexpensive by Western European standards and if you plan it right you can stay in very nice accommodations and have excellent meals for very little money.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Begovic Boarding House
Wow. What a treat! I had high expectations about this place, and they were all met. Although it is located out of the center, there is a convenient city bus that will pick you up and drop you right off by the castle. The guest house is also located very close to a large grocery store, many cafes, the sea, and an internet place.

Unique Qualities: From the moment that the owner, Sado, picked me up at the bus station in his car and proceeded to give me a tour of the city, I knew that I was in for a treat. They really took care of me here! His wife made me soup when I was sick. You can't beat that! Prices were extremely reasonable (less than $20 a night) and I had a small apartment with a kitchen. It's not luxurious by any means, and it's not in the city center, but they have an amazing orange-covered terrace, and it's incredibly peaceful. Sado can give you tips about anything to do and can even take you on tours into Montenegro. I definitely recommend staying here.

I have eaten here three times now and have yet to be disappointed. For one thing, it is very convenient as I always stay with the Begovic’s and it is just down the stairs and around the corner. They mostly have pasta dishes, although they also carry various seafood dishes as well. (Sometimes the two are combined.) I don’t recommend the penne arrabiata as they translate it loosely as “pasta with chili” which is pretty much what it comes out looking like. Everything else has been fine, however. For budget travelers, it might be a little on the upscale side price-wise. Maybe a good idea if for one night you don’t feel like cooking.

Directions: down the stairs and around the corner from the Begovic Boarding House. Or, about a mile and a half from the Hotel Neptune.
