I have to say that one of the best and overall joyful experiences we had this time around was at Epoca. A restaurant that sits below the condominiums vista del sol in the Romantic Zone of Old town. They are right on the beach and have many different options for dining.
The food is exquisite. We have been to la palapa and le bistro and all those more established places in town. But, in terms of the quality and preparation that Epoca´s chef has created, I would have easily and gladly paid as much as what those other places charge. However, the prices are so reasonable for their location that I hope it stays that way when they become more popular.
We had the Pork shank and the mexiprawns. We weren´t very hungry but after a couple fabulously refreshing mojitos on the beach during sunset we decided to stay and try the food. The mexiprawns blew me and my girlfriend away. They were cooked to perfection and glazed or touched with an amazing sauce. Then, we split the pork shank which was sitting on a bed of plantain and potatoe puree, amazing... and was doused with a subtle yet savory orange-cumin sauce.
We demanded to speak with the chef and he told us he had spent many years in the states studying under some great chefs, although he was from Guadalajara. Epoca has found an artist!
Long story short, we moved inside for a night cap at their beach bar and enjoyed wonderful ambient music, great conversation, and good people before, against our will, we headed to bed. It was unforgettable! Anyone looking for a casual but fun atmosphere, reasonable prices and superb quality in food you have to stop by epoca and see what they are all about.
They are doing a great job and I imagine with a couple more years underneath them they will be one of the most popular restaurants in a place that has way to many to choose from. Read Less
