New Orleans for the Day

I tagged this restaurant as serving American, but not in the "burgers and fries" sense. Petunias serves a lovely blend of Cajun, Creole, and French - just what you'd expect in New Orleans.

Petunia's is in a pink, three story building on St. Louis Street, and was about a block from our hotel. We were out early, and were the first customers of the day at 9:00. (We actually waited a minute or two in the street for the waiter to unlock the door.)

The building is old, with a narrow entry way, high ceilings, and what either original or well-interpreted fireplaces. No need to run them the day we were there - the ceiling fans were already spinning. The waitstaff was friendly, the service was casual, and the food was delicious! I had eggs and sausage - sounds boring, but it came with cheesy hash browns and two kinds of sausage - andouille and boudin. The boudin was the best sausage I have ever had. My husband had the pain perdu - "lost bread", a real version of french toast. Absolutely perfect - a great way to start the day!
