Romantic Mountain Getaway

A July 2001 trip to Helen by Cosmic Gryl

This was the most romantic trip. We stayed at a beautiful cabin 4 miles outside of Helen, GA. The property was called Cabin on the Creek and it was lovely. We had the most romantic and loving time in this cabin which included a hot tub right in the bedroom.

Tubing down the river by Cool River Tubing is a lot of fun. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to travel down the river but it is safe for all ages. It's a pretty calm river that flows nicely.

I also recommend hiking one of the trails. They have many trails for all kinds of levels. Some trails end at beautiful water falls and the water is safe to swim in. It's really nice to be able to listen to nature and not have to deal with your normal city life. It's quite peaceful on the trails.

You can also go to the Lookout area they have over the Tullah Falls. It's quite breathtaking.

Quick Tips:

I suggest that you don't stay in the city of Helen but stay somewhere closeby because the city is very crowded and quite small. You won't have any real privacy staying at one of the hotels in the city of Helen.

I recommend you find a nice Bed & Breakfast or a beautiful mountain cabin so that you can really experience the beautiful scenery and nature the mountains have to offer.

Then you can go to Helen for drinking at the many bars or window shopping at all the arts and crafts shops they have.

Helen has a lot of activities for the children. There is miniture golf and a amusement park for the children. As well as street preformers in the center of town at the courtyard.

Finally, don't leave Helen without getting some of the excellent Funnel Cake. Its the best I've ever had and they offer it with all types of toppings.

Best Way To Get Around:

You definitely need a car to get around. You may also ride a motorcylce or bike but walking is not much of an option unless you only want to stay in the town of Helen.

The property features 4 cabins which accommodates different sized groups. We stayed in the "Lovers Cabin" which sleeps two and has a loft King Bedroom with a Hot Tub. The entire cabin is made of beautiful honey wood which makes it so warm and inviting. The bedroom also has a small bathroom and a balcony overlooking the creek.

The cabin is fully equipped with a full kitchen with all necessary appliances and cooking utensils. They have satellite TV, CD player and VCR. Full washer & dryer as well as a large shower for two. It also has a beautiful fireplace. The house also offers a large deck with a picnic table, lounge chairs and a grill. You can fish off of this deck for excellent Trout.

The place is just beautiful and is often used for honeymoons. Very relaxing and so very romantic. It''s hard to leave this beautiful place. As we were leaving a herd of deer came by to say goodbye. You could see them off the back deck of the house as they walked by grazing on the land and drinking from the creek.

The front of the house has a swinging bench on it where you can have a romantic swing with your partner. The other cabins are spaced nicely apart so that you can enjoy your privacy.

There is a large supermarket nearby where you can stock up on all your food. There are also several restaurants nearby if you decide to leave the cabin but I doubt that you would want to leave.

You can see photos and book the cabin of your choice at link
