A Halloween Scare

An October 2007 trip to Lancaster by ct888

Family trip to a haunted attraction that ended up being much more.

The best thing about the whole trip had to have been The Field Of Screams. It was one of the best haunted attractions I have been to, although I do think the price was a bit high. The Strasburg Railroad was fun as well and it turns out we were there the same time they were have A Day Out With Thomas The Tank. There is a large variety of things to check out there as well as riding on the trains. The souveniers were plentiful and reasonably priced. They kids had such ablast here, and I'll admit it I did too! All of the Amish sights were a great learning experience for the kids. They got to ride in a Amish wagon as well as eat their food and learn about their culture. We went to the what I believe they said was the state's largest pet store, and man they weren't joking it was huge. They had fish in there I have never even heard of before.

Quick Tips:

If you have little kids I don't think they would enjoy the Field Of Screams too much. Don't over dress or wear heels if you plan on going through the houses, they are hot and you do alot of walking and floors shift etc. At the Strasburg Railroad, be sure to give yourself pretty much the whole day because there is a lot if stuff to do and see and you won't want to miss anything.
If you have a pet, the pet store is a MUST! Your pet would lobve you to bring them back some gourmet cookies and cup cakes!

Best Way To Get Around:

Driving is the best way to get around.

Hotel | "Westfield Inn & Suites"

This Inn was very nice, they over you a dscount with your field of screams ticket stub which makes it a great choice. They only have an outdoor pool, but they do offer a deluxe continental breakfast which has locally grown fruit as well as bagels, yogurt, cereal, pasteries, etc. The suites offer microwaves and fridges. The place is very update and modern. The rooms were clean and very spacious. The beds were comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for reasonable priced place to stay either alone, couple or family.

Restaurant

This a good little family restaurant, it is comfortable, clean, friendly service. They have kid's menu as well as dinners, pizza's and stromboli's. Their lasagna was really good, and so was the liver and onions, very tender. The kids got a nice size plate of food as well. The total bill for 4 of us 3 orders off the regular menu and 1 off the kids menu was $27.00.
I would definantly eat here again and would recommend it to families, singles, just about anyone.

This place had some of the best bake goods I ever tasted. It smells so good when you walk in the front door, after seeing the menu it is so hard to decide what you want. The Dinner Smorgasbord had a huge selection including:fried chicken, baked fish, beef pot roast, baked ham, roast turkey, fresh pork and spare ribs, fried shrimp, vegetables, soup, salad, bread and desserts for $16.99. They had this cute ark built for the childrens buffet that had a large variety of kid's favorite foods like macaroni & cheese, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, hamburgers, sloppy Joes, spaghetti, pizza , ravioli, fish sticks, nachos, mashed potatoes, slushies, ice cream. And they only charge 75 cents per child's age.

Attraction

This was an unplanned trip to the railroad, we originally went down to the Field of Screams and it was late by the time we left there, so we got a room and spent the night. While looking through the brochures in the lobby we found the railroad, which we thought; well, we would have the whole day the following day so why not stop on by. Well I can say that it was a day well spent. The kids had a blast. And it just so happened that we were there on the same day they had Thomas the Tank! The kids were so excited. It was actually very well paid priced, we got two train rides: one on Thomas and one coach for a family of 4 for $88, less than the Field of Screams!

They also had a few little things for the kids to do such as the cranky car, pump car, the switch tour, and the cagney train which is a mini train that was originally used as an amusement park ride.

The Railroad Museum of PA was really fun too, they have real trains on display, a control deck where you can sit and see what it is like to run a train, explore a caboose, sit in a passenger car, see under a stem engine, they have model trains and toy trains for kids to play with and so much more. Kids under 6 are free, so for the other 3 of us who had to pay it cost a mere $19 and if you happen to get an entertainment book they have a bunch of coupons like BOGO's so it would cost even less. I can't wait to take the kids back again and have a exciting day and do some of the things we didn't do on this trip. If you love trains, your kids or grandkids do, I really suggest you take them here they will love and I bet you will too!
