While working at Cherokee KOA on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains we found ourselves a little bit of heaven. Begin by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway, when you see the sign around mile marker 440 for Balsam Mountain Campground and Heintooga Picnic area turn. As you travel on the paved road you’ll see wildflowers, flowering trees, and a totally different world. Stop at the Mile-High overlook. If there is good weather look out on vast sweeping vistas of the Smokies. Read the marker about the parks creation. Across the road have a nice view of Maggie Valley to the east.
