Romantic CapriBest of IgoUgo

Overview

Map
I really loved Capri. It is a really romantic small island off Naples. It was a pity that I have travelled alone in this place but I also managed to enjoy very much of this pretty place by myself.

Most memorable experience was the open-air cansone concert happend in Vila Jovis. It was really good. There were many locals as well as tourists and walking passing by beautifully decorated houses with tiles and stones were a pleasure as well.

Quick Tips:

Two main towns are Capri and Ana Capri. Both are worth to stroll around. It has several historical sites, good restaurants, cafes, souvenier shops and much more. Capri is also famous for its unique perfume. So try to buy some for your friends. It is not expensive, either.

Best Way To Get Around:

You can walk within towns but between Capri and Ana Capri I would like to suggest to take a bus. You can simply see the time table and hop in. Most of the buses pass the major two towns, Capri and Ana Capri.

Hotel | "Albergo Esperia"

This place was recommended by Lonely Planet. It is a small hotel with a little bit less than 20 rooms all together. All rooms are double rooms and it has a good view too. And for the price, it was quite reasonable. Even though the hotel clerk seemed a little bit unprofessional.

La CapanninaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

La Capannina means a small hut in Italian, and as it was recommended by Lonely Planet travel book. And its food was great, indeed. I had Insalata Caprese and Spaghetti alle vongole with wine. It was really good. And I would recommend you to try the Insalata Caprese if you are visiting here since it originated from Capri as you can see from the name.

Grotta AzzuraBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Grotta Azzura
Grotta Azzura means Blue Cave and it is located in the northwest end of Capri Island. You can take the boat trip and skilled boatman brings you into the cave and you can see the emerald green waters inside. Great fun! Thrilling when you come to the cave since the boatman has to wait take the chance when the wave is low.

Ana CapriBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Chiesa di San Michle
Villa San Michele

This was the house of Docor Axel Munthe and located in Ana Capri. In this house there are many sulptures as you can see in the photo.

Try to walk behind the villa, there you can see the superb view of Capri island. Have a look at the view from there in the photo.

Chiesa di San Michele

Small church along the main road. Have a look inside.

Along the main road, there are many little shops selling ceramic tiles, ceramic souveniers and perfumeries. It is a great fun to have a look and if you are tired of shopping and touring, a cup of cappuccino is great too!
If you take the tram from Marina Picola, it leads up to the Piazza Umberto. This is the center of Capri town and there is a pretty wall clock and many open-air cafes and restaurants. It is very good at night as well. So if you do not have much to do at night just grab a seat in one of those restaurants and bars then watch the crowd. I am sure that there will be something all the time.

Looking for good tips for shopping? Then, I would like to recommend via Fuorlovado and via Camerelle. In there you can find many jewelry shops (Capri is famous for corals). There is a nice perfume shop in via Camerelle.

If you want something local, I would strongly recommend Capri Sandal. I have found the local shop in via Sopramonte near Esperia Hotel and it is really nice and beautiful. I still wear them in summertime. You won't regret it for sure!
Another local gifts is perfume. I have bought many small perfumes for my workmates and it is good in quality and price is not expensive as well.

Tile is famous in Capri and if you want to bake your own tile, go to Massimo Godercci in via Cimmino.

Villa JovisBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Villa Jovis, which means Jupiter's Villa is located in the East end of Capri town. It takes over one hour to walk from the town center, Piaza Umberto. However it is worth to visit.

Roads have the spiral structure in Capri due to its height. So you can simply follow via Tiverio then in the end you will meet this Villa which was once the residence of Emperor Tiberius. You can see the remnants of the Villa.

I have been here in the daytime and also again in the nighttime for the open-air concert. This place often holds many concerts in the nighttime, so try to attend one while you are here!
