Disneyworld with the Whole Family

A July 2006 trip to Orlando by houdini16409

I love Disneyworld for a lot of reasons. I would go back year after year if I could afford to.

Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida is a great place to go with the whole family. There is so much to see and do that you cannot possibly get bored. Even the pickiest of people will have a great time. There are four major theme parks to choose from, and there are rides for big and small at all theme parks. They also have two huge water parks for when you want to take a break from the theme parks and cool off a bit. Florida can get really warm and humid so it is nice to take a break in the action and cool off.

Disneyworld can get really expensive and if you can only afford to go one time in your life, make it worth it. Do your research as to what times the parks will be opening, plan your meals, and make reservations. This will avoid a lot of frustration on your trip and make it a lot more enjoyable. Bring plenty of spending money so you won't miss out on anything.

I would make reservations online because you can find all the information that you need to make the most out of your Disneyworld vacation.

Quick Tips:

As I mentioned a few suggestions above, do your research ahead of time. The Internet is a great resource and you can find anything out you want to know about Disneyworld. You can see maps of the parks, restaurants, and anything that may interest you. It is important to know when the theme parks open because you can get to them right away in the morning and hop on the attractions before they get long lines.

I recommend that you stay on Disney property because you get the complimentary shuttle to and from your hotel and the theme parks. This is a lot nicer than having to pay for parking and walking a mile just to get to the entrance. You will be doing enough walking during the day and will be tired.

Get a park hopper pass. I cannot stress enough that this is truly the best deal. You can come and go as you please, which is helpful if you want to go to the Animal Kingdom during the day and want to see fireworks at The Magic Kingdom in the evening. It may cost a few dollars a day more, but it is well worth it.

Best Way To Get Around:

Like I said earlier, stay on Disney property and use the free transportation. Also, if you are staying on Disney property you will get complimentary shuttles to and from the airport. It is so convenient. Also, bring your walking shoes as your feet will be quite tired at the end of the day.

Attraction | "Haunted Mansion"

The Haunted Mansion - one of my favorite attractions at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. I think it is a great attraction for the whole family but I would refrain from taking the real little ones who may scare easily. I have been to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida twice now. In both occasions, I have been to the Haunted Mansion attraction. When you first approach the mansion, you make your way through the line outside which can get hot if you in the uncovered part for any length of time. One recommendation for you is if the park is really busy, I suggest using the FASSPASS METHOD. This is where you would scan your park pass and you would receive another little card with a time on it. This is the time when you can come back to the attraction and not have to wait in line. This is an awesome deal so you do not have to wait in line with your impatient family. (I know from experience.)

After you enter the haunted mansion, you will be escorted into one of two rooms. There, you will here a short story about the Haunted Mansion and another door will open where you will get into a small line to board the ride. The ride is one that is constantly moving so you will not have to wait long in this line. Once you board the ride it will take you through the whole Haunted Mansion. You will get to see ghosts dancing in the ballroom, and toward the end of the ride you will be able to look into a mirror and see a ghost sitting with you in your car!

The ride is about 5 - 10 minutes long, and like I said before, it is well worth the wait. Be sure to take advantage of the FASTPASS at all popular Walt Disney World attractions, to ensure a great time for your whole family. Enjoy your trip, I know I have in the past and for many years to come!

Attraction | "Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin"

I think that Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is one of the better family rides in Tomorrowland. You sit in a car and help Buzz shoot all. It is a lot of fun. It is suited for the whole family and is not scary for the little ones. Everything glows in the dark, so it is really cool.

The ride is quite popular so it may be one of those rides that you will need to Fastpass, and come back so that you do not need to stand in line. Another suggestion would be to visit this attraction right away in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Attraction | "Walt Disney World Resort: Magic Kingdom"

I have visited Walt Disney World theme parks twice in my life, and I liked it so much, I never can wait to go back. To me, it is worth every penny. In my personal opinion, Magic Kingdom Theme Park is the best park of all. There are so many things to do for every age group you will never get bored.

For adults, you have your thrill rides, Splash Mountain and Space Mountain. Splash Mountain is a very thrilling water ride where you WILL get wet. Space Mountain is an awesome roller coaster that takes you on an adventure through space in the complete dark. It is scary and exciting at the same time. My personal favorite is the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. You get to sit on a tram for like 20 minutes which it is covered and you get a breeze. And if you have been to Florida before, you know it is very hot. This tram will take you through Tomorrowland and show you all of the attractions in the area. Very nice to check out to see if you would be interested in any of the rides.

A great family attraction to check out is It’s a Small World. It is really fun for the little children with lots of music, will get annoying by the end of the ride for the parents, but it is a Disney Classic. Another thing for the little ones is to check your map of the park to find where your favorite Disney Characters will be signing autographs. Although I am a grown adult, I still will get an autograph book and visit the characters, it's like a tradition that will never end. Plus, it is a treasure to keep for your own memories.

Also while at Magic Kingdom, don’t forget to visit The Haunted Mansion. It is great for the family, though if you are traveling with real small children they may be a little frightened. If any of the large attractions are very busy, I highly recommend FASTPASS. FASTPASS is a privilege to all Disney guests in which you can stick your park pass in to the machine at the attraction and you will get a card back with a time on it. This is the time that you should return to the attraction and you will not have to wait in line. This is perfect for the impatient one in your family, plus you will ensure to see all the attractions you will have time to maybe go back to your favorite a second time.

We visited Walt Disney World in Mid-September, when it was the end of hurricane season. This was perfect because there was like no one there and we didn’t have to wait in any lines. They did not have FASTPASS running because there was no waiting in 99.9% of all the attractions. But if it is available, USE IT. Enjoy your vacation to Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World's Blizzard BeachBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Blizzard Beach"

I truly believe that Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World Resort is the perfect getaway for families visiting the theme parks. It is truly the place to sit back, cool off, and just relax. We went to Disneyworld back in June and we enjoyed it very much. I thought it was quite crowded at the water park, but there are plenty of activities that you can do to pass the time away. I personally, spent most of my time on the lazy river, which was awesome just to lay and watch the scenery, as Disney has definitely done up.

My husband spent most of his time on the water slides. The chairlifts are a must do, because where in the world can you ride a chairlift in a bathing suit? The lines for the water slides can get a little long, but for any popular attraction at Walt Disney World, you must see/do it right away when the park opens up. Otherwise, you could be waiting 30-45+ minutes to ride your favorite attraction.

I did feel like there were not enough food venues to accommodate the amount of people who go through there in a typical day. My recommendation is to eat at your hotel before you come, plus it will give you some time for your stomach to settle before you hit the waterslides. I think we ate before coming, and since we were only there for maybe 4 hours, we bought some mini-donuts on the way out. They were yummy! I also think we bought a soda to wash them down too!

Overall, I think that Blizzard Beach is great for the whole family. The kids can hit the slides and pool and mom and dad can relax in the lazy river or by the pool. You will definitely not get bored, you will be fully entertained for the day. Don't forget your sunscreen though! Remember, Florida does get extremely hot, and anytime you are out in the parks if you are not wearing any, you WILL get burned. Hopefully you will enjoy your vacation at Walt Disney World, I know I did and will be bringing my family back for years!

Story/Tip

I think that going to Disneyworld with the whole family was a great experience for everyone. If it is something that is in the budget for your family, do it. There are a lot of times where you can get really good off season deals through Disney. Start saving ahead of time so that you will have lots of money so you do not have to miss a thing. It can get really expensive but if you plan ahead, you will not have to miss anything.

Food can get really expensive. If you are traveling with small children, I would recommend that you bring a lot of snacks with so that you do not have to buy those at the parks. You will be spending enough money on big meals that you will not want to shell out a lot for little treats. The best time to go to Walt Disney World is at the end of hurricane season. School has just started so the parks are a lot less crowded. It can be really humid, so plan a couple of days to hang out at the pool and the waterparks.

I recommend that you stay on Disney Property. There are a lot of advantages. First of all, you get the extra magic hour. Extra magic hours mean that each day there is a designated park that is open one hour earlier to only Disney Resort guests. I would recommend that you go to that park and hit the big attractions first. Trust me, you can get a lot done in that first hour. Secondly, if you stay on Disney property you also get all your transportation from your hotel and to the theme parks. No more walking miles from your car to the theme park entrances. Plus, no paying for parking which will save you a lot of money.

I like to plan my day ahead of time. We choose what theme park that we want to see, and then pick out some of the whole families attractions that we want to see. This way, if we run out of time, then we have got to see some of our favorites. Don’t book your day full. There will always be something you want to see twice, or the lines may be a lot longer than you expect.

Spend some time relaxing at the hotel. You are on vacation, and there are so many things to see and do at Disneyworld, it can be really easy for your vacation to pass by so fast and then it is time to go home. Having some downtime with the family to enjoy your vacation will make it a lot more pleasing.

I really truly think that Disneyworld is one of the best vacations around. They have such a variety of things to do at their theme parks that it really pleases everyone. I know it is my family’s personal favorite vacation destination.
