I should start by saying my family and I spent a rainy August week at Split Rock. The temperature was only in the high 50’s and low 60’s all week, so we spent more time than most in our timeshare.

Split Rock is laid out in three sections. The main Gallaria building is where one of the indoor pools is located, a game room, eight lane bowling ally (three lanes not working), indoor tennis, weight room, restaurant, ice cream parlor, and where most indoor activities were held. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby-area. The Lodge is a second area. It has the other indoor-pool, a restaurant, and a pizzeria. I don’t know if Wi-Fi is available here. The Lodge sits on Lake Harmony and is next to many of the outdoor activities such as swimming, mini-golf, and paddle-boats. The third area is the Westwood Villas. These are located about a quarter to half mile from the Gallaria and a little less than a mile to the Lodge. There are many villas, each with four units.

The good: Our unit was large (two bedroom split with a nice size kitchen and living area), and clean.

That’s not to say the rest was bad, just that it was not the greatest. If I had to use one word to describe it, cheap would be that word. There must have been 40 light switches that each controlled one light or lamp, all with low voltage lights, so you had to go around turning everything on – and not all lights worked – the worst being the one over the entry door which made it difficult to unlock the door when coming back late. The TV upstairs had a VCR/DVD player, but the one downstairs didn’t even accept the jacks to our portable DVD player. There was no mid-week freshening service, but you could strip your own bed and exchange linens and towels yourself once midweek. You were also asked to strip your beds and bundle your towels before leaving. The bath towels were small and flimsy. We were given cards to get pool towels. There was only one person working the pool area, so it took time to get the towels and they were the same cheap quality – I’m not sure the clientele they get that they have to be concerned about the theft of these towels. There was also a prominent sign in the kitchen to clean up before checking out or face a cleaning fee.

At the restaurant in the Gallaria we were chastised for not having a reservation and then they acted like they were doing us a big favor to squeeze us in. It was 5:30 and not only were there more empty tables than full, the restaurant never got full.

If it was warmer and not raining, I probably would not have minded getting in the car and driving to use the pool, Wi-Fi, restaurants, or other facilities, but given the conditions, it just wasn’t as pleasant Read Less
