Bansko, Bulgaria: Summer

An August 2007 trip to Bansko by Sabbatical Traveler 07

If traveling to Bansko, Bulgaria, in the summer, be aware that there are serious issues there at this time (summer 2007).

On the positive side, great deals are available for off season stays at Bansko, an up and coming ski resort in Bulgaria. On the down side, the area is a major construction zone. There are literally DOZENS of high rise buildings going up at the same time. The entire town is a construction zone. The noise and dust is relentless and it is 7 days a week and throughout all day light. The appartment complexes which claim to be "all season" often have amenities which in fact are only available in the winter. Much of the construction we witnessed is of a very low quality and it is seriously over built (buyers beware!). Water shortages are already surfacing. We are simple, care-free travelers who don't need much, but are aware that Bansko is NOT as advertised in the summer. If you go, and we aren't saying don't, be ready to set aside your expectations.
