Overview

If you are going to be in Savannah during the summer, than you must go to Tybee Island to spend the day at the Beach. The beach is a public beach so there is not charge involved (other than parking) and its very clean and safe.Quick Tips: If you want to save money but still have a good time I suggest you stay at a hotel outside of Historic Savannah which is on the Riverfront. You can stay at any number of hotel on Abercorn St. which is a main street that ends at the Riverfront. They many reasonably priced hotel with large pools, exercise rooms, basketball & Tennis courts and you are only a 10 minute drive to the Riverfront/Historical Savannah.Best Way To Get Around: It's best to h...Read More

The hotel has a exercise room, a large pool and children''s pool, basketball & Tennis courts and free continental breakfast buffet featuring fresh made waffles bar. This is a must!!! It is a causal restaurant sitting on the water. Most of the seating is outside but the do have an inside are which is screened in. Lots of Free Parking in front of restaurant. It is located when you first enter Tybee Island. They feature only broiled or steamed seafood and offer a sampler Platter for two for $35 which is more than enough for two people. It has King Crab legs, Dungeoness Crab Claws, Steamed shrimp, Mussels, Crawfish, potatoes, Extra Sweet Corn on the Cob and sausages. The seafood was the best flavored I have had in a long time. The have other steamed dishes available but the sampler platter is their most popular - the same sampler for one is $22. ...Read More

Very nice elegantly stylish restaurant in the Riverfront part of town but not directly on the river. It's kinda hidden on a side street at the edge of the Historic area. Very slick and stylish restaurant that asked if we had reservations. We did not but we were lucky, they found us a table. The restaurant is small but with two floors and a bar area on the first floor. The second floor is much more private and dark. Has a dimly lit sitting area for enjoying drinks. The appetizers range from $8 - $12 (their famous Lump Crab & Lobster cakes w/ corn relish). It's excellent. They also have a superb vegatable plate seasoned so well that you forget to ask for butter. The food is ...Read More

Tybee Island North Beach

This is a great beach for families and couples. Unlike Miami Beach, there is no nudity here so its great for families. The beach is also good for children because it stays at about 3 feet high for at least 50 yard before it starts to get deep. Also by the time the waves get to the shore they have melted away but the further you go out, the waves are higher and great for both surfing and boogie boarding. The sand is very fine and powderlike and there is no real trash on this public beach. It's very clean. Glass bottles are not allowed on the beach nor is public drinkins so if you have cans of beer they must be in a cozy so as to not show what you are drinking. If you bring bottles w...Read More

It's really not worth visiting. It cost $1 and basically, it's a few fishtanks with some sealife and then they have some jars with dead sharks and other larger sealife. It is very small- only 2 rooms.

I would not recommend wasting your time with this sight.

Attraction | "Ghost Tour"

There are about 5 different companies offering a walking Ghost Tour. They each meet at different squares in Historic Savannah. It is basically a tour guide walking you up and down different streets telling you stories about things that happened in these homes. Of course the homes are supposed to be haunted but you don't get to go into any of them. You basically are just walking around and listening to the guide, who is definitely animated and a good storyteller so if you like that kind of thing than great. Personally, it was a bit corny for me as I was hoping to actually be frightened during the storytelling as I envisioned being at least on the stairs of the homes if not entering them. ...Read More

If you are not staying at a hotel in Tybee and are just visiting for the day, I recommend you get a full day parking pass at Parking Lot 2 for $7. It allows you to park at the main parking lot for the beach as well as at any of the parking meters in the city which must be fed at all times. It is probably better not to park in the main parking lot at the beach as that part of the beach is the most populated. If you drive down a few blocks, and every block has an entrance bridge to the beach, you can find a really nice spot on the beach. These streets all have parking meters so you can park on any of these residential streets and walk right onto the beach. The parking pass is also gr...Read More
