Located off the beaten path this budget motel turned out to be a wonderful find. With a coupon I found easily on the Internet, the price was right at just over $40 for a double room. We arrived before 9am in hopes of getting a room lined up and planned to come back later for check in. The clerk was very friendly and allowed us to go ahead and check in, so we were able to unload our bags and get on with the day without further worries about a room. I was very pleased with the rooms appearance. It actually looked as if it had been painted recently. The tub/shower combo also appeared to be new and recently installed. The room was very clean and comfortable. When we returned the following day the maid had...Read More

This wonderful little diner will take you on a trip back to the 1950s. Walking in the door made me think of the television show ‘Happy Days.’ The walls lined with 45 records, surrounds a room of formica top tables and spinning soda counter stools. Perched on the wall is the jukebox loaded with golden oldies. For anyone who remembers the little jukeboxes on the tables, this is a wonderful place to visit, they have them! For a quarter you can flip through the listings and hear a tune from the fabulous 50s. The menu offered a variety of pizzas, subs, and burgers. The prices ran about average for a tourist area. After the real food it’s time for the sweets. It was hard to pick from the ice cre...Read More

I was skeptical about spending the $21 entrance fee for this museum, I had heard good and bad thoughts on it. On top of that, while in line for tickets the hostess begins to explain the new audio tour, which cost an extra 5 bucks. But I decided to go all out and rent one of the handheld audio devices, I figured my daughter and I could take turns listening, if it was worth the bother. To my surprise this turned out to be one of the most interesting and enjoyable places I’ve visited. We were given a boarding pass in the name of a person aboard the Titanic and a short description of their life before boarding the ill-fated ship. We were told to keep and eye out for items connected to our passenger...Read More

As part of the admission price to Silver Dollar City you may take a tour of Marvel Cave, the entrance is located just inside the gates into the City. The tour takes about an hour with the first one leaving, I believe about 9:30am. I really couldn’t tell if tours left every hour but I think they were only 20 minutes apart. At 5:30pm there is a lantern light tour, it cost an extra $10 for adults, $5 for children, and the only difference I could gather was that everyone carries a lantern. The main thing to keep in mind is this is pretty much steady walking for an hour. I read somewhere that it is 600 steps down, nothing was mentioned about the 10 stories back up. The good news is that for the ...Read More

This is a venture back to the life and times of the 1880s. So much more than just an amusement park it’s like a really fun history lesson. SDC is geared toward family fun and entertainment, whether you’re 5 or 95 there is something here to be enjoyed.Upon entering the park you’ll find yourself on town square. Here, before opening time and throughout the day, you may enjoy good clean comedy skits, usually involving the deputy. Each morning a flag raising ceremony is held and visiting veteran’s are invited to participate. On one side of the square you’ll find McHattie’s Homestead. This authentic log cabin was built in 1843 and moved here in 1960. In the barnyard a petting zoo provides fun for al...Read More
