A Day in DC

D.C. is great. The Mall is an unbelievable three-mile walk from the Capitol to the Obelisk with something like 30 different museums along the way. It is amazing. And, just off the beaten path is the Holocaust Museum. I highly suggest checking this out.Quick Tips: Most of the museums around the Mall are cheap or even free, so don't really worry too much about that. I would go online to each of the museums to see if there is an event on the day you are visiting it.  Also, get to D.C. early because the crowds are overwhelming and never ending. Best Way To Get Around: If you get in at the Union Station in D.C., there is a bus that will take you all around th...Read More

Located right near Union Station, next to the Postal Museum, the Capitol City Brewing Company is a wonderful way to finish a day of touring around. When we got there, we weren't truly hungry, but decided to get a snack and some much needed drinks. Being a microbrew establishment, their beers were unparalleled to the generic Budweiser or Coors you find other places. Their signature beers are the Amber Waves Ale, Prohibition Porter, Captiol Kolsch, and Pale Rider Ale and are great. The seasonal stuff that was available was the Summer Ale and an IPA. We immediately ordered a sampler of all of the beers, deciding which one we each liked and ordered from there. The apps that we got were the ...Read More

Oh my God, what a place! Upon entering the museum, I expected what one would generally expect from a holocaust museum, general facts, gruesome pictures, and a lot of anti-Semitic propaganda from the past, but this place was completely different. Now luckily, my brother is a police officer and got all of us in ahead of everyone else with his ID, but I believe the museum is free regardless, they just have you wait on line for some minutes while they hand out passes. After receiving our passes, we headed over to the permanent exhibition area and were told to get passport looking ID cards before entering the elevator. There were two pamphlet holders on each side of the elevator lobby filled ...Read More

After coming round the back of the Capitol Building while Congress was supposedly in session (they are only really in session from Tuesday to Thursday in the summer because they take the weekends off), we were looking out over the never-ending green pasture towards the Washington Monument. While coming down towards the grass, we saw that the road was shutdown because the police were rehearsing their motorcycle techniques up and down the street. It was kind of cool to see these guys going slowly through a maze of cones up and down the street. As we made our way down the Mall, we were trying to decide which museum to go into, since there are something like 30 different museums on the ...Read More

Although this is primarily a train station, the Union Station is full of beautiful architecture and interesting exhibits. One of the coolest exhibits was the Titanic Exhibit going on in the main lobby. The Titanic, the famous ill-fated ship, was built in Belfast in Northern Ireland and here in D.C. they have paid homage to the structural ingenuity of the engineers. They did this by building a to-scale model of the city and how they built the massive ship. It was actually a kind of cool surprise to see while I was waiting for my girlfriend to get back from the bathroom. With the high, arched ceilings, and large windows of the hall, this place is just fun to be in and with the added Tita...Read More
