My Kind of Town: Chicago

We spent our 23rd wedding anniversary in Chicago, where we became engaged. Once we got to Chicago (8 hours late) we had a fabulous time.

Our hotel was in walking distance of everything, and we did not have a negative interaction the entire 4 days we were there. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. This seems to be a city full of happy (but LOUD) people.

Quick Tips:

Use the Free Trolley service to get around in the Magnificent Mile/Theater District/Loop/Grant Park areas.

Bring a folding chair and picnic blanket to the Taste of Chicago.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking was no problem, even late at night. Use common sense, however.

Take a cab to and from the airport. It is cheaper than the airport shuttle service.

Excellent price on this excellent hotel. We enjoyed the location, which is walking distance from the Theater District, The Loop, Navy Pier, and Grant Park. We enjoyed the squeaky clean, contemporary decor, the free continental breakfast, and the staff which was friendly, accommodating, and courteous. The only drawback was the lack of an in-house restaurant or lounge. We loved the comfortable beds, the luxury toiletries, robe and slippers, books, magazines, DVD player, music CDs. We will definitely stay at the Amalfi when in Chicago again.

We enjoyed the Taste of Chicago. It was quite an adventure. The crowds were not too bad, and the weather was great. We discovered Merlot ice cream, which was fabulous. One day was quite enough for us. Fun. Bring a blanket or folding chairs, though.
