More expensive than Tokyo

A June 2007 trip to Stockholm by tammyhayano

Plan on budgeting about US$100 per day on just basic needs (groceries, metro, hostels). It's a beautiful city to just walk around, which is good since everything is so expensive.

The Vasamuseet: this is where the famous Viking ship is at, and it is very impressive. Plan on spending at least two hours here. If you can only go to one museum in Stockholm, this is a must! Old Town: Great to just walk around in and poke into stores.

Quick Tips:

Cheap eats: Thai food and falafels. Okay, so it's not exactly Swedish food, but there isn't anything very traditional here as far as cuisine goes. Contrary to other parts of the world, 7-Eleven is not a cheap convenience store. My Swedish friends called me a "big spender" when I said I went there for groceries. H&M is on every corner and has clothing for great value.

Best Way To Get Around:

Prime location, just a five minute walk from the main bus and train station. This place is huge and has all the conveniences that a backpacker would want (lockers, TV room, free internet, kitchen, free coffee and tea, reading room, enough showers and toilets). For a big place, the rooms are quiet, and people seem quite mellow. It's clean, sociable, and within walking distance to the metro, Old Town, shops, banks, etc.
