Overview

Saturday morning we met with the “Clean Air Team” to go on our hike up to Diamondhead Crater. We had a lovely gentleman who filled us in on all the names of the bushes and trees, etc. and birds along the way. He explained how Diamondhead was an under ocean explosion and not a volcano. On the way we were admiring some trees at a bungalow & the young man living there came out and gave us some papaya he had grown in his yard. We snacked on it and continued to the base of the pathway that leads to the top of Diamondhead. We continued up the paved trail, which turned into a dirt trail then up 98 stairs straight up to the top, then up a spiraling dark staircase to the lookout. Whew! What a view though! We then had a lot easier time going down. When we got back to town we found a really cute Hamburger joint on Diamondhead road and ate lunch.

Quick Tips:

You need to take a flashlight & bottled water with you. There are no stores at Diamondhead. The guide told us they were about to redo the road to the park.

Best Way To Get Around:

We walked from the Zoo in Honolulu since we went with the Clean Air Team. You can drive to the bottom of Diamondhead & walk to the top.

Restaurant

We ordered a delicious Mai Tai and sat by the pool, listened to the music and enjoyed the drinks. Dinner was delicious. I ordered a chicken, beef & pepper shish kabob over rice. JD ordered the Grilled Ono (fish). Before dinner arrived we helped ourselves to the wonderful salad bar with Caesar salad, green salad, fresh pineapple, melons, and fantastic banana nut muffins.
