A July 2002 trip

Quote: There is so much to do and see ( and so many people to, well, you get it) that it is easily understood why this place is so frequented by so many.

If you happen to find yourself in East Hampton and are looking for something to do that would be unforgettable, a stop a Nick & Toni’s (www.nickandtonis.com) would do you well. Located on North Main Street in East Hampton, this place just off the proverbial beaten path and full of surprises. If you are a fan of seeing and meeting celebrities, this is the place to be. With basic Italian-American dishes and a small dining area, the notoriety of this place makes it seem like a castle. Started by the daughter of Steve Ross (Warner Bros.), Toni and her husband Jeff (Nick), this small endeavor took off to the premier restaurant the east end has to offer. To make sure that you have a table, I would highly recommend a reservation, unless you happen to be someone of power then a table will magically open up. Reservations are taken a whopping 10 days in advance and every night fills up fast in summer, so call early. With a wood burning oven, visible as you walk through the door, cooking up Rosemary Free Range Chickens and fresh fish dishes, pouring great aromas out into the unsuspecting crowd. As you walk past the oven and through to the second dining, you get a glimpse into the very busy and organized kitchen. The chef is always more than glad to stick his head out and glad-hand anybody who wants to thank him for a great meal. When you find your seats, try to order up THE appetizer that the table can share, which is the fabulous Zucchini Chips. Then, as you peruse the six page wine list and search for that great wine, the servers are fully knowledgeable in what wines go good with what meal you are interested in. The menu consists of an array of different styles of food such as seafood, veal pasta and an assortment of vegetables grown right in their own backyard. As your night goes on, you are almost guaranteed to see at least one famous person (and if it’s the weekend, forget it, the night consists of them). But please don’t pull out cameras and try to take any pictures because the staff will ask you to stop or even to leave. They respect their guests' privacy.
The average meals range from $120-200 per couple. The ambience is great, and a tad bit loud on a Saturday, but it is totally worth it and you should definitely try out some of their wines because the list is one of a kind. They also have other restaurants in East Hampton that you should check out and you can see them on the website. Otherwise enjoy your evening!
