There is plenty to do while in Williamsburg. There is the Brooklyn brewery, McCarren Park, tons of cheap bars, great pizza, and an exotic amount of shopping to be done. On almost every side street and even on Bedford itself, there are people selling tons of trinkets. From books, to clothes and even records and jewelry, there is something for everyone.Quick Tips: Almost all of the bars and restaurant have cheap drink and food deals at all hours and there are parties always happening, just keep your ears open. A good way to do this is to pick up an L Magazine near the subway...it has all of the local Brooklyn happenings.Best Way To Get Around: There are plenty of ways to see Willi...Read More

After walking around the park and the warehouse area of Williamsburg, I was craving a real slice of Brooklyn Pizza. I used to live in Brooklyn a couple of years ago and have missed the pizza ever since. So, it seemed fitting that I stop in the Italian pizzeria of Vinnie’s on Bedford near North 10th Street. Upon walking in, I felt as if I was in a pizzeria you would see in mobster movies; pictures of Italy on one wall and pictures of famous Italian’s on the other and everyone knew everyone. I overheard a conversation with a guy who was just visiting the neighborhood for the first time in 10 years and the guy behind the counter recognized him right away. They spoke as if they hadn’t seen ...Read More

While I was walking back towards the subway to head back home, I saw a sign in the street that was pointing towards the Artist & Fleas market. The colorful door was wide open and I wasn’t really prepared for what I saw. Upon walking in, my ears were greeted with the sweet sounds of underground punk music blasting at decibels that even the deaf could hear. Surprisingly though, I didn’t hear the music outside, but I think that was because the walls were sound proofed and the angle in which I came in, blocked the sound perfectly. This flea market was definitely one of a kind, with an assortment of things being sold. The first item on the selling floor were shirts that seemed to be homemade wi...Read More

KCDC

For the skater fan, this is a must-see, no matter what. Located right across the street from the Brooklyn Brewery, the KCDC is a skate shop unlike most that I’ve seen before. The prices are a bit high (about $60 for skate shoes) but you get a cool feature with that purchase. Inside the store, there is a half pipe and if you bring a board, you can try out your shoes on the pipe to see if they are what you are looking for. It feels like Tony Hawk’s own personal skate shop with a twist of Brooklyn to the motif. There are also shirts and pants from small no name designers to well known and everything in between. The outside of this building is decorated in the artistry that the local inhabitants a...Read More

McCarren Park

Located at the end of Bedford Avenue near North 12th Street, McCarren Park is a great place to hang out in on a weekend to relax and maybe even play some pick up games. On Sundays, there are league softball games and kickball games that require you just showing up alone or with your own team. There are three softball games going at one time and then the kickball take over afterwards. Tons of people wait around on the sidewalks, practicing their throwing arms and getting ready. Upon entering the actual park area, there were people parked all over the place. There were blankets and the like at every corner of the park, enjoying the beautiful Brooklyn air and the wonderful tanning light that the ...Read More

Spike Hill Bar & Grille

Attraction | "Spike Hill Bar & Grille"

Like most of the bars in Williamsburg, this place caters to the seemingly attractive concept of the poor man’s beer; Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR). The Spike Hill Bar on North 7th Street and Bedford, is a real great place to stop for a quick, cheap drink. The PBR’s run you about $1 each. That’s right, $1 each, but they are in cans. At that price though, who cares, right? The ambience is a little seedy, but if you can be lucky enough to find a spot near the front of the bar, at the window overlooking the street, it is a little better. For the rest of you that can’t fit in the front, there are plenty of uncomfortable seats and tables in the back. But again, for $1 PBR’s you really can’t go wrong. I unfortunat...Read More

Brooklyn Brewery

The Brooklyn Brewery is one of Brooklyn’s greatest attractions since it is completely Brooklyn. If you take Bedford Avenue down towards McCarren Park, hang yourself a left on North 11th Street and you will be privileged enough to see the greatest small brewery in all of New York; and the only. The brewery is located in the old warehouse section of Williamsburg and is an area that has attracted the creative youth of New York for its open spaces, luscious parks and its amazing beer. Every bar has their Brooklyn Lager signs flickering high and bright for all to see all through out the neighborhood.A great way to experience this brew house is by coming by on a Friday evening, when they have differ...Read More

Temporary Museum of Painting

Located right across from the Brooklyn Brewery Ale House, this seemingly impromptu art gallery is a unique sight. Situated in the old bottling house of the Hecla Iron Works building, this exhibit is on the second floor. After paying my $2 admission, I immediately regretted doing so. The art was anything but not amazing and the space, considering it is in an old factory loft building, was very small. These spaces are generally large and open, however seeing this space was unexpected; there were two rooms with a total of about dozen paintings. Also, while there, the woman tried to sell me a drink and offer me some of her books, for a fee of course. This place looked more like a house than it did like an...Read More
