Mini-Vacation in LA area

A June 2007 trip to Los Angeles by santos.l.halper

Stylin' and beachin' in SoCal

Very nice hotel, newly refurbished with a $30 million renovation.

Staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are nice, with marble entryways and marble bathrooms.

Location is good, but not on the beach-you would have to drive to the beach.

Note that parking is by valet only and costs $22 per night (in and out OK).

WOW! If this place had no art in it, it would still be a great place to visit!

The building is on a hill near Beverly Hills. You park near the freeway, then take a tram or walk one mile up the hill to the museum grounds. Once there, you will be rewarded with 360° views of LA and Southern California and can see as far as the smog will let you.

The building and grounds are fantastic. There are many places just to sit and enjoy the view (fountains, gardens, walks, balconies, etc.).

The collection is good, with all major periods of Europe represented.

We were here for two hours and could have spent a lot more time just hanging out.

Definitely worth a half day or more if you are in the LA area.
