Achilies
The island has something for everyone, from teens to pensioners, different resorts are often designed for different age ranges. The northern resorts are mainly for families whilst southern ones, like Kavos, are strictly party zones.

Quick Tips:

Beware of hiring a moped, they are cheap but if you have an accident (the roads are full of pot holes), you may find you are not insured properly and end up with a large bill (this was once very common practice). the best time to go is April to September, beware july and August get very hot, May the whole island is in bloom and at its prettiest.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rental cars are cheap on the islands, taxis can be reasonable but one of the best ways to travel is by boat. Try to avoid hiring a moped.
Apartments
On both of my visits I chose self-catering. The rooms were purposefully built and serviced, they are like everything else on the Greek islands - sparse, no TV, for example, and no air conditioning. Many package tours will include your accommodation at reduced cost, you should however when booking a package choose your destination resort carefully, to best suit your needs.

The Greeks are simple people, most dining is done at the Taverna`s, mainly Greek or English food in the holiday season, they are cheap and cheerful and the food is often very good.

Dont expect to find restraunts and hi class establishments, apart from a handfull in Corfu town, they simply do not exist. There are no themed restraunts, just cheap & cheerfull food, and plenty to go round.

Inside Achilies palace
Kavos has so many night clubs and taverns, it's difficult to pick one out. If you are young, this is the place to party all night long.

A small cove
I have put a few pictures, as they say a picture says a thousand words, so enjoy and make your own mind up. There are beaches miles long to small coves and bays, your own personal choice.

Story/Tip

Woman and Donkey
As mentioned, Corfu has something for everyone. Accomodations are from basic self-catering to hotels and a handful of time shares. For the most part it shouldn't cost much more than 20 UK pounds (25 US dollars) per night for a decent self-catering apartment, of course depending upon the current exchange rates.

In the north, there's a big mountain - on the top lives an old monk. If you can make the drive (you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle), he will normally treat you to a glass of his home made wine. Beware - he only speaks Greek so be prepared to make gestures.

You can easily drive the whole island in one day, being in the region of 27 miles long and around 10 wide. There are many resorts to choose from and the main towk (kerkira) Corfu town is definitely worth a visit, with architechture from all over the world (depending upon occupancy at the time).

Mouse island
Corfu Town is the one and only main town on the island. It is near the location of the airport, Achilles Palace, shops (they don't open until about 5 pm because of the heat), roadside cafes, nightlife, the Castle, and many boat trips to other islands. The main town has just about everything, be sure to visit the market (a collection of stalls) where the natives shop for their food, it's at the bottom of the castle wall.

Spend a day in Corfu Town (or should I say an evening) and be sure to stop often to drink, in the summertime you will soon get dehydrated.
