Quote: Out to discover the best parts of NYC. Give me culture!!!
Attraction | "Give me Culture, Give me Brighton Beach!"
I have been wanting culture lately. I have been wanting food that I have never tasted, flowers that I have never smelled. I have been wanting things from far off lands. Luckily I live in New York City. All I need to do is jump on the subway. Today I decided to explore Brighton Beach. I got off at the Brighton Beach stop via subway and started walking down the street. Little vendors outside of shops sell these delicious pastries full of potatoes, or beets, or cabbage. They are rich and fantastic.
A gigantic supermarket catches my eye. It is called Bazaar. I have never seen the likes of this sort of supermarket. I go in. It is gigantic. Everything is in Russian. Smoked fish are piled high. Many different kinds. I recognize trout and bass and a long skinny one which might have been a pike. Everything is in Russian in this store. Soda, yogurt, cheese, pickles, pickled mushrooms. They have a large pickled section which I get lost in for sometime. I am not usually so dreamy and in love with supermarkets, but this place is truly an experience! I grab some dark down dense looking bread, some cans of sardines and some pickled green tomatoes. I walk out onto the board walk and have a picnic on the beach.
Not many people are around this time of year. It's like a private beach, a private Russian beach. I most wholeheartedly recommend going to this supermarket and trying something new and sitting by the ocean and having a go at this new and fantastic experience.
