Quote: The winter of 2006 was reported to be the warmest in Switzerland in 1300 years. Outside of the Alps, it was indeed warm and snow free, which allowed us to see the fantastic sites around the country.

The highlight of this trip was certainly around the small town of Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn. We spent two days here and took the gondolas to Glacier Paradise at an elevation of 12,736 feet (3,883 meters) just opposite the summit of the Matterhorn. Well, the first thing to do is to find people you can stay with for free. Sounds difficult, but not if you are members of communities like www.couchsurfing.com and www.hospitalityclub.org. These online communities bring people from around the world that match up travellers and hosts. I have been a member of these communities for about fou...Read More
