Don Ho , Don Ho, Whereforth art thou??

A November 1995 trip to Honolulu by BeAdventureous!

Waikiki, the beaches, the babes, the bikinis! Rocking on the porch of THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN, sipping umbrella drinks & people watching. Having a spa treatment at IHILANI. Throwing leas into Pearl Harbor to commemorate the bravery that was displayed there.

Catching some rays on Waikiki. Having mai-tas at the historic ROYAL HAWAIIAN. Having a facial at IHILANI and a fabulous gourmet meal. Taking the boat out to Pearl Harbor and seeing the lists of names of young men lost at sea, encountering the whispers of unrealized potential, caught up in the loss.

Quick Tips:

The beaches are COVERED with people. If you want peace and quiet, away from the maddening crowd of thin blond things, stay at Ihilani, it's off the beaten track. Or better yet, go to Maui....

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxis do the trick quite nicely!

Restaurant

There are tatami rooms available, although our group wanted a more traditional eating arrangement. The sushi bar was incredible! The Asian influence in Hawaii is delightful! They served us tastings from island cuisine to Mediterranean offerings, as well as Japanese food. We were on a "fam" trip and they were tempting us with all the offerings available on property to convince us to bring a group back to their very hospitable hotel. I'm convinced!!

Attraction

You take a boat out to Pearl Harbor, and walk aboard where so many young men lost their lives. You view long lists of their names and very young ages and as you feel the waves below, you sense an overwhelming feel of unrealized potential, passion, and prayers. With a profound sense of loss and sadness, you never realized you had, you, along with the other passengers, thrown leis out to sea to honor the memories of those courageous lads. You see a movie that really brings alive those historic days and hear a survivor's story. Initially I hadn't cared about going, but it was a crystalizing moment for me.
