I wanted a quiet overnite place without going too far to surprise my husband for his birthday. And since we love the Jacuzzi suites in Vegas that was the starting basis for my search. It had to have a full Jacuzzi (not the tub with jets kind most have).

The rooms are clean and quiet, some things seem to be in the process of being changed as there were two kinds of heat/air (central and the wall kind) with only one working. And was a little strange with a shower IN the Jacuzzi and a full enclosed shower in the bath also. But it was a nice getaway all the same.

The Brigantine Resturant has been in Escondido since 1980, but this is the first time I have tried it. I took my husband there for his birthday. It has a quiet elegance with a huge fireplace and an old sailing theme with masts and "portholes" for windows.

We tried the king crab legs (one pound) and the skirt steak with garlic mash potatoes (way too much garlic). Excellent bread though.

Filippis is the best!

Real Pizza, not that cardboard stuff. It has loads and loads of cheese and all your favorite toppings. It is also served lasagna and your choice of ravioli. The dinner combo is the best: with spaghetti, lasagna and ravioli comes with soup and salad for a reasonable price. It has a quiet romantic atmosphere with great service, they also have room for large parties and gatherings. We frequent here a lot, almost if the car heads here on its own.

They serve excellent Mexican food with terrific service. It has nice surroundings but it is a little hard to get to (It's on a one way street). The food is worth the trouble though. My mom loves the buffets they have in the afternoons and they have live mariachi bands on weekends.

Try the margaritas they are terrific!

Serbys Café

Restaurant

Quote:
Serbys café is a nice place, the interior hasn't changed much since it was Carrows many, many years ago (even the cash register is in the same place), but it is a nice "home-cooking" type of restaurant. It has nice portions and good prices, low service though. They serve bottled wine and beer and bottled cocktails. There's an interesting patio area which would be nicer if it didn't face the busy street and have a view of construction going up across the street.

This is one of our local favorite spots! It has terrific food, excellent service, and very reasonable prices (usually about $20 for both of us with drinks and dinner). They have daily specials, homemade soup, and relaxing atmosphere. My favorite is the club sandwich! Their specials include soup and salad, drink, and dessert.

Classic Mexican food with a nice atmosphere. Acapulco is a nice break form the ordinary. Service is OK. The bar has a happy hour with a great appetizer special, Margarita Mondays are the best.

We like to share the appetizer platter (it's huge) and the combo fajitas with the steak, chicken, and shrimp.

Better than the "chain" Mexican restaurants, family owned. Terrific food and full bar. They go the extra mile for service and friendly atmosphere. Small but intimate setting, live bands on weekends. We like sharing a combo platter and one of the huge margaritas. Ask for Mario, he's the best!

They have the best corn beef and cabbage around. This place is a great date place, fun and friendly with a small town feel. Drink specials and dinner special. It is centrally located on grand. It's fairly new but it's a terrific place to check out.

In my search of a quiet place in Escondido for a getaway, I found some that should not be used by the unwary traveler. The motel 6 on Mission Avenue, and especially the Mt. Vernon on Mission. It gets at least two police calls a nite for trouble. It pays off to ask at the nearest restaurant (this case Dennys), how the area is before you go.

Out and about in Escondido there are many places from the familiar to the family owned to try. Our favorite is Spires on Valley Pkwy. with home cooking and terrific service (Brande is our favorite server). For a quick breakfast on the go we like Petersons Donut Shop on Escondido Blvd. and 9th Street, they make donuts and speciality 24 hours a day. After 10pm the only sit down place is Dennys (Center city and Mission) with a name you easily recognize and is always consistent. (Ask for Jake as your server, he's the best!) For a little more upscale we like Applebee's on Valley Pkwy. They have the best steak around (forget Sizzler, it has gone downhill over the years). And don't forget the whit...Read More

Around town for night life there are some fun places to hang out. Pounders (on Grand Ave..) This is an awesome place to go to hear live local music... whether it be the blues to rock. The entire front wall opens to the street when it's warm, and the beer is always cold. The Comstock is also a good choice for getting out of the house. Brian is the best bartender! North Bar is a smaller place with a lot of atmosphere. Ask for Irene here, she will take care of you.
