St. Louis Airport Area

A February 2007 trip to St. Louis by catronma

We make frequent visits to the airport area for overnight stays before our plane leaves in the morning.

Hotel | "The St. Louis Airport Hotel"

The good part about this hotel is the park-and-fly package, much cheaper than any of the other hotels I called in the area with the exception of the Days Inn, which is further from the airport and looks much worse. If you like luxury, this hotel is not it. If all you want is a place to sleep and a ride to the airport, this works just fine. We have stayed here twice when we had early morning flights. The first stay was much better, the room was clean and in a decent state of repair. Our second stay, the room that we got was not in the best condition, with cracks in the bathtub tile, stains on the walls, and some trash left behind.
You can't beat the location as far as proximity to the airport, but when looking for something to eat, you may have to drive depending on the time of day you arrive. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but they will be closed if you arrive too late, the next option is a Wendy's that you will have to drive a few miles for, or a more expensive dinner at one of the other more upscale hotels down the street.
They do have a free airport shuttle in the morning. Ask about times when you check in, you may be fighting with other people and may have to wait if someone got out earlier than you!
The Lobby is small but clean, but there is no breakfast in the morning if you are looking for that. The pool is outside, and since we keep using this airport in February, we never had the oppertunity to check it out.
The web site is:

and you can do online reservations, but I prefer to call just because this is a smaller local hotel rather than a big chain.

Another stop to pick up our glass at Hard Rock Cafe. This is one of the smallest ones I have been to and it is in a rather odd location behind Union Station Mall. There is no big flashy guitar or car in front of this location just a stand alone building with the mall behind it. Parking was good and easy, of course it was a weekday when we went. The menu is the same as all other Hard Rock Cafes, though it seams to have gotten more expensive in the last year. The retail store here is small but if you are looking for the standard goods you will be able to find it.
The staff was helpful and introduced us to the All Access pass to gain points and free things during our travels to Haad Rocks this pass will also get you a shorter wait for seating if you are there during busy times!
