Bulldog BurritoBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Bulldog Burrito is a little Mexican food joint located on Elm Street, next to Ivy Noodle and across the street from Cosi, and quite close to Yale University. The restaurant is sort of fast food, with the food being made as you order it up at the counter. They specialize in quick burritos and other Mexican food, serve lunch and dinner, and are open late (after midnight) most nights of the week.

The ambience is very nice in Bulldog Burrito, sort of a mix between Mexican decorations and Yale University support. Although there isn't a lot of seating, it's usually enough. You order up at the counter, and you can watch as they make it or sit down and they can bring it to you.

I will say that the prices are a bit high at Bulldog Burrito. I usually assume that a visit will cost me in the neighborhood of $10 for a burrito, chips, and drink, which is a bit more than I like to spend for this quality fast-food Mexican. Nevertheless, the food is pretty good, and there are not many Mexican places in the area, so I usually bite the bullet.

Just to add quickly, the best part of Bulldog Burrito are the people that work there - they are all very nice, and will remember you after a few visits. The owner is also in there working fairly frequently.

If you are craving Mexican food, I highly recommend it.

Yorkside PizzaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

In any other city, Yorkside Pizza would probably be the very best. New Haven, however, is no ordinary city when it comes to pizza. If you're looking for the best, you should check out Sally's or Pepe's. That being said, Yorkside is a true campus hangout and makes great pizza.

Yorkside is located in New Haven on York Street, right next to Toad's Club and near the heart of Yale University's campus (for those familiar with Yale, it's next to Sterling Memorial Library and near the Hall of Graduate Studies). They are open for lunch and dinner and are open late, extra late on weekends.

Where Yorkside shines is its identity with and pride in Yale University. The walls are covered with the crests and shields of Yale's schools, as well as pictures from past Yale sports teams. It really feels part of the Yale family. As a result of this identity with Yale, as well as its proximity to the heart of the campus, Yorkside is popular with students.

Tip: It can get fairly busy during dinner and late at night on weekends, and especially busy whenever large events are occurring on the Yale campus.

The food is quite good and reasonably price. It's not hard to get out for under $10 a person. Pizza is, of course, their speciality, but if you're looking for something different, they have a wide range of Italian and Greek food. The salad isn't bad, either.

If you're looking for great pizza and want to experience a true Yale hangout (or don't want to make the trek to Sally's or Pepe's down on Wooster Square), then I highly recommend Yorkside.
