Attraction

Homestead Village is run by a church community of persons who use craftsmanship and farming to sustain their faithful. By giving us entry, our group of Rotarians saw woodworking, pottery making, a flour mill, and iron making all capped by a lunch of pastrami sandwiches and homemade ice cream, vanilla or pecan. The grounds cover many acres and follow a gravel path that made it challenging for those elderly in the group, but the tour narration made the walking worthwhile and gave an insightful look to this functioning community. No question embarrassed our guide including the ones about salary allocations, childbirth in the village, home schooling, and recruitment of members. It was fascinating to see these modern people living simply off the land and with trade skills sustaining the village.
