Door County Getaway

The Ashbrooke – a hotel of elegance, charm, and privacy. It doesn’t sound right to say “nestled on the busy street of Egg Harbor Rd," but this sophisticated hotel feels like a retreat in the woods the minute you step on its property. It’s distinct exclusive look may be a bit intimidating for those who usually do not stay in such class (such as my husband and I), but the warm welcome we not only received from the staff but fellow guests, made us feel completely comfortable.

The Ashbrooke is located in Egg Harbor, one of the many touristy small towns in Door County. Since Door County can be one big cluster during the summer months, it’s very important to find a hotel that is in walking distance to shops, restaurants, spas, and waterfront. It’s also important that you station yourself in a location that is in short driving distance to all the other small towns Door County has to offer. It is a must that you visit as many Harbors, Gigs, Bays, Islands, and everything in between for each has its own distinct charm. Staying at the Ashbrooke allows you to gain all of these important characteristics of an amazing Door County vacation, but most importantly it allows for genuine relaxation and comfort.

The Ashbrooke is a bit on the expensive side, but is worth the extra change! The rooms are equipped with whirlpool baths, a wetbar, Aveda products, some rooms are available in a 2-room suite, movie rentals from the front desk, indoor pool, great sundeck, and again – location, location, location! You don’t have to worry when staying here – you will be taken care of!

You will find many quaint family-owned restaurants and cafés in Door County, it’s part of the charm and distinct experience you receive from visiting. However, Harbor Landing, a house turned café, was the highlight of our weekend experience. By not commenting on the food first, it is not that it wasn’t fabulous, but our experience was only heightened because of the outstanding food. It was the heartfelt greetings and sincere conversations we had with the wait staff/owners. They were genuinely glad you shared your vacation with them. My husband and I enjoyed 2 lunches and 1 breakfast with Harbor Landing and would recommend every single item on their menu. Since it is family owned and staffed, their quality dishes and delights are done with sincere hope that the customer finds it as enjoyable as them creating it. When asked how your meal is, it is not an empty question like most wait staff provide, they actually stand there with an inquiring mind expecting you to give a full review!

You will find a variety of traditional café/deli dishes for lunch and special unbelievable breakfast delights, our favorite being the cream cheese and cherry filling sandwiched between homemade French toast! Must I say more?

This chic yet casual bistro offers the elegance for a couple and a comfortable atmosphere for a family. It’s a great change from the usual vacation fast food, deli’s, and pubs to excellent food for a reasonable price. The menu houses a variety of pastas, fish, and meat dishes. They have a small but quality beer and wine list and their desserts, made fresh at the restaurant, are worth a try!

You can’t miss this restaurant driving on the busy Main Street of Fish Creek. It’s beautiful white painted wood with blue trim creates a family feel that you can’t help but want to stop and check out. It’s outside landscaped patio, equipped with a nice size bar, invites all to sit down, relax, and grab some grub before going back to your boat, beach, or shopping mayhem! A great menu full of specialties in steaks and fish all for an outstanding price! This is a great restaurant and is not to be missed!
