Grand Hyatt DFWBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "The Grand Hyatt"

I stayed at the fantastic hotel as I had arrived on a flight from Canada and had only nine hours before I needed to check in for my next flight. No time to go home as trying to do so would have meant, at the very least, a short time for sleeping and a great deal of stress.

So I pre-booked at the Grand Hyatt at DFW. Absolutely crucial as this is a very busy hotel. Don't count on making a last minute reservation or just showing up. This hotel is attached to DFW Airport Terminal D. I arrived at another terminal and had to claim by baggage, seek out, and take the Terminal Link bus and arrive at this hotel about 30 minutes later. If you arrive at Terminal D, it is a quick and easy walk to the elevator that takes you to the hotel's lobby. (Departing is easy as well).

I booked an executive room at a stunningly high rate of $289 plus tax. I won't kid you as that is what this hotel often costs. You pay for convenience, luxury, service, and a very quiet place to sleep only a short distance from active runways. That soundproofing costs money.

Once you arrive at this hotel, you can turn off your stress button. All will be easy and pleasant from that time on. The bellman took my luggage and whisked it away to my room. It took 5 minutes to check in, but I could have checked in automatically at an ATM-like machine. Web site of this hotel: http://granddfw.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp.

Everything is perfect. The restaurant, the Grand Met, is superb. My bed was huge, called the Grand, the bathroom is the sort of room you would find in a million dollar mansion and the facilities are top grade.

The beds, pillows, linens, etc. are so fine you can arrange to buy similar and have them delivered to your home. The black out drapes really do so. The room is very quiet.

The best part of this hotel, however, is the kind and considerate staff. They know that you are worn out and perhaps jet lagged. They take care of you without being intrusive.

When it is time to depart, you can arrange for a bellman to take your luggage and see it all the way to the check-in desk if you are flying American Airlines out of Terminal D. If you are flying AA out of another terminal, allow at least two hours before your flight. If you are flying on a different airline, you may have to take Terminal Link bus to another terminal at DFW and check in as usual.

Once you have checked in and have gone through TSA security, you have a short walk to your departure gate or at worst a ride on Skylink.

Yes, I would stay at this hotel again if I have a very early departure or as in this case, a change of planes with a long layover.
A second visit confirmed my opinions.

This place has a street address, but to find it you need to have an airplane ticket and go into Terminal D at DFW airport. If you are in another DFW Terminal, you can go to Terminal D for free on SkyLink, the elevated train. This restaurant is between gates 21 and 22, near the USO.

The food is great, absolutely great. I wish I could eat here more often. The food is fresh and tasty, the prices reasonable, and service is fast and cheerful. I had a bowl of potato soup and my sweetie had corned beef. Great preflight travel food.

If you are really hungry, order the All Day Irish Breakfast with all the traditional goodies including: 2 eggs, Irish sausages, baked beans, black and white pudding, and brown bread. It is fantastic, but a meal fit for a really hungry person.

This place just plain cheers me up. Full selection of beers and wine with Guiness Stout. Real Guiness!
Enjoy! or better yet Slainte!

Restaurant | "Grand Met Restaurant At DFW Grand Hyatt"

Kitchen and chef cook in the open
We dined at this restaurant while stayed at the Grand Hyatt at DFW Airport, but this restaurant is so good that we are going to drive out to DFW Airport to experience it again! The atmosphere is quiet, calm, and refreshing after a long day of travel (or when looking forward to a new day of flying). Absolutely to class restaurant with a menu that changes by seasons and by the whim of the chef.

Excellent wine list which coordinates with the menu and is benefited by knowledgeable waiters who know wines and fine food.

My husband who had wonderful paella in Spain, says the paella he had at the Grand Met was the best ever! Wow!

The kitchen is open and close at hand. From time to time they hold a cooking school right in the restaurant. The food comes to your table instantly upon completion. The chef can watch to see if you are happy with his food.

We were so travel weary we weren't sure we wanted to eat at all, but booked a reservation as soon as we checked into this fine hotel. Glad that we did! Our meal was wonderful. I had vegetable samosas (an appetizer), a Greek salad, and dessert.

Seek out this restaurant! You will be glad that you did so.

MokaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Moka at the Grand Hyatt"

M Lounge at Grand Hyatt
Need a bite after arriving at the Grand Hyatt hotel or a quick coffee and breakfast on departure? The Moka restaurant/ coffee bar is open 24 hours and is a very nice place to enjoy your food. You can, however, take your items back to your hotel room, put them in your carry on bag (less the coffee and other liquids of course) and to enjoy later.

The coffee and tea are Starbucks brands, the pastries and many other food items are made in the hotel. You can get bottles of juice, all sorts of chilled items of high quality including slabs of cheese and cold meats.

There is a large 12 person table share to enjoy your food or you can step into the M Lounge and relax.

We checked our baggage into American Airlines on the morning of our departure and returned to Moka to have breakfast before we checked out of this wonderful hotel. Knowing how feeble airline food can be, we stocked up on munchies, cheese, and sweets for our long trip ahead.

We really enjoyed Moka and the nice people who work there and are determined that you will be properly prepared for your travels.

If you are traveling with children, you can find plenty of food items, juice, etc. for them as well.

Macs Steaks & SeafoodBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Mac's Steak & Seafood"

Mac's Steaks and Seafood Shrimp
A short distance from the North Exit and Entry of DFW International Airport is the very fine Mac's Steaks and Seafood Restaurant. A really nice place to get a meal going or coming from the big airport or if you are in the area for a visit or longer. The food is extremely fresh and well prepared with an emphasis on New Orleans and Cajun cooking and spices. Laid back service (you will never be rushed) and a large menu means that you will be able to find something you will enjoy from steaks to shrimp dishes and sandwiches. You can advise the cook to cool down the spices if you don't care for hot, hot!

My friend had a plate of large and spicy shrimp and I had a chicken salad sandwich. My sandwich was a little too heavy on the salad dressing but did taste very good.

Beverages include the standard Texas sized ice tea, popular even in winter, and a full range of choices of alcoholic beverages including a vast selection of beers. The coffee is New Orleans style which means strong and served very hot. That is why there are so many choices of sweetners on each table!

Mac's is a very popular place with folks who work in local businesses. If you don't recognize the name of the town 'Colleyville', just remember the restaurant is not far to the west of DFW International Airport.
