The Chateau Laurier is an excellent hotel. Even though it is a luxury hotel, you can get a decent room in off season for $225 CAD per night. Its ideal location to the Rideau Canal, the parliament, the By Market, Bank Street and other shopping areas makes this hotel a good choice. The hotel is quite old, built over a hundred years ago, so expect the rooms to seem "old". The hotel looks like a castle from the outside and in the lobbies, there is lots of memorabilia from the past hundred years. Blue Cactus is one of my favorite eating spots when visiting Ottawa. This restaurant/bar is very popular with the young crowd and is very busy on weekends and throughout the summer. Their specialty is fresh Mexican grill, including sizzling fajitas, burritos, and quesadillas. They have many seafood, beef and chicken platters too. The music is load and there is a resident DJ playing cool music. Tables are candlelit and there are two floors of dining. While waiting for your table, you can enjoy a drink at the bar.
