Walking through the mists of tea plantations was unforgettable; having high tea in a hotel left over from the British colonial era. All that and much, much more.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Hire a car and driver before you leave Colombo. You leave the driving to him, and he protects you from the touts. It's cheap and it makes travel in Sri Lanka a joy instead of a hassle.
Kandy Firewalker
Sri Lankan traditional dance is wildly different from what one is used to in the West. Costuming is much more creative, incorporating metal pieces, shells, and all manner of odd objects put together in odd ways. Bizarre wooden masks are worn; plates are spun atop sticks; the next thing you know people are firewalking. It's a smorgasbord for the senses.
