Overview

Quote:
The 'burbs of Chicago may not be as exciting as the city itself but it still has it's perks. Things are known to be bigger in the 'burbs. Houses, cars, shopping malls... If you want to shop the west suburbs can help you with that. The Oakbrook shopping center in Oakbrook is home to many brand name stores such as: Macy's (formerly known as Marshall Fields), Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany's, Abercrombie and Fitch, etc. This large out door mall also boasts to have several large chain restaurants. Want steak? Wildfire. Want Italian? Maggianos Little Italy. Feel like some dessert? Cheesecake factory. Whatever your taste they are sure to have a restaurant to please. If you are a bargain shopper t...Read More

Mamma Maria's Pizza

Restaurant | "Mamma Maria's"

Quote:
Mamma's is an Elmhurst institution that has been serving fine quality pizzas and pastas for over 20 years. You can choose to eat in. Mamma's has a small dining area with roughly 5-6 tables. They are mostly known for take out and on a Friday night you can expect to wait up to an hour and half for delivery of a pizza. On really busy nights, expect to wait that for a pick up. Normally your dinner is ready in about 25 minutes. They make their spaghetti sauce from scratch. It has that homemade smell and taste to it. They have all the standard pasta's such as spaghetti and gnocchi. All pastas for take away come with a pre-buttered bread roll. The dinner menu has ribs, eggplant parmagana and bread...Read More

Our Kitchen has been one of our favorite pancake houses for years. With their famous baked apple and Dutch pancakes it's not hard to see why. This cozy restaurant has been turning out quality breakfast delights for over 25 years. They do get very busy on a Saturday/Sunday morning, but they do not take reservations. They do have a small trinket stores connected to the restaurant that you could wander while you wait. The restaurant itself is fairly large with a non-working fireplace in the main room and plenty of booths. The coffee is always in fresh and plenty supply and the friendly waitresses are all dressed in Our Kitchens colors of blue and white.I've always gotten good service. If you order...Read More

Richard Walker Pancake House

Richard Walkers is one of those pancake houses that when you are away from town you start to really crave and miss.  Opening at 6am and staying open until at least 9pm most days, you can get your breakfast fix at any time of the day. Like most specially pancake houses, they are known for their Oven Baked Apple pancake. A creation so large, and yummy, that it has to be shared. The same can be said for the German pancakes (although they do a Dutch Baby which is a bit smaller in size if you really don't want to share or have left overs!). They also do all the other breakfast fixin's as well...eggs, fluffy omelettes (with stuffings galour!) crepes, various other forms of pancakes as well as sa...Read More

Roberto's Ristorante & Pizzeria

Restaurant | "Robertos Restaurante"

Quote:
Roberto's is cosy; it's romantic and it's great food! Nestled in Spring Street near the Great Western Prairie Path Roberto’s has been in the Elmhurst community for over 15 years. Serving delicious pizzas for delivery, pick up, or eat in along with a range of finely prepared pasta, seafood, and Italian dishes. Tables are dressed in white table clothes and sparkling wine glasses. For starters I would suggest Fior di Latte $8 (with fresh mozzarella, it's amazing) or Calamari Fritti o alla Griglia $9 (grilled or fried). They have an extensive wine list with bottles ranging from $18 up to $200+. Their friendly staff are well versed in which wine would go well with what dish so don't be afraid to...Read More

Tivoli Theater

Attraction

Quote:
The Tivoli theater is one movie theater that time (and big business) hasn't really touched. There is still just one screen, as there was when the theater opened in 1928.The inside has had some refurnishing, starting in 1976 with additional improvements being made all the way up to 2006. What you find is stunning. A theater of 'yesteryear' that is as good as new. Brightly painted walls, ornate trim on the side boards, new red seats, red velvet curtains in front of the screen, a beautifully decorated ceiling and, best of all, an organ that still plays before most shows on weekends and some weeknights. The outside marquee is a recent upgrade. That and the building are the only 'old looking' pie...Read More

McNally's Irish Pub

Attraction

Quote:
McNally's is my local at home; a cosy two-story pub on the south side of uptown Elmhurst. This pub has many "nooks" and comfy corners to hide out in. There is live music upstairs on the weekends. If you are after a meal they offer a range of Irish stews and soups to bar food such as chicken fingers. Prices range from $4 for a bowl of soup to $9 for a salad. Sandwiches are around $8 while dinner meals are around $10-18. As for your drink choice. They offer 18 beers on tap, including Guinness (of course!) and Blue Moon, 33 Whiskeys from the states and overseas and over 30 varieties of bottled beer. Daily offers change each month. But you will usually find $2 bottle beer (choices change depending on t...Read More

North Beach

There are two North Beach Clubs, one in the city and one in the 'burbs. I've only ever been to the one in Downers Grove so I can say if the two are the same. The one in Downers Grove is a club in the suburbs; already it's got a strike against it. Friday/Saturday nights there is a cover charge; minimum of $5 just to get you in the door. Correct attire - for men - required, meaning hats worn forward, no ripped jeans, covered shoes, etc. Women, we know we can get away with mostly anything. During the week this isn't a bad venue. There are pool tables upfront, daily drink specials, bowling alleys in the back and an indoor sand volleyball court. As a planned work or social outing this place s...Read More
