This was one weird trip for us. We had been in Springfield, MA for a gig. Everyone one packed up and was heading out. Jim and I were heading north though. To Burlington. For Pavement.
We drove up that Sunday afternoon and made our way to the hotel. A wonderful small trapezoidal mini cabin place called the Swiss Motel. It was affordable and well it gave us our own cabins. Jim had homework and game four of the ALDS was on, so we stayed in Sunday night. Damned Sammy Alomar Jr...
So. The next morning we woke up and took a trip out to Ben & Jerry's. What a great tour that was. We did our tour. Got our samples. Enjoyed a resurgent summer like day. Then it was off to admire more of the fall foliage. Oh the foliage.
From there it was back into Burlington and to a pub for a late lunch and a couple beers. This is where we first saw SM playing pinball. We knew who he was and we were the only three in the bar. So we left him to himself. No sense being a nut and interrupting him. We ate our lunch and had a few and left. Well we sort of... ummmm... forgot to pay the bill. (more on this later)
Next up was a bar next to the venue where we had one beer and decided it was not worth it. So we headed into Toast for the show. Here we decided the opening bands were ok but not worth our attention. Game 5 of the ALDS was on the TV and we were watching it. Eventually we ended up watching it with SM and Ibold. Was a funny time. But they were waiting until the game was over to go on stage. A highlight of our trip for sure.
Well the Yankees lost and the show was started by SM's "Good night Yankees, It's been a hell of a season" and Ibold's "This one's for Joe Girardi." The show rocked. We had a great time. And all enjoyed. Afterwards we stumbled back into Neckar. And paid up our forgotten bill from earlier.
Quick Tips:
First of I would suggest you come here in the fall. The foliage is one of the major attractions here. This does make room prices on weekends higher than you might want to incur but to me it is a wonderful way to get away for a quick weekend.
Also on my list would be a trip out to the Ben & Jerry's factory. Besides the samples I found it quite interesting to see the whole process of how they make it. I used to make ice cream when I was much younger and to see it on a larger scale was a great treat to me.Best Way To Get Around:
