Potcake is the name given to homeless dogs living in the Turks & Caicos Islands. What is a Potcake?

While researching for my trip to the Turks & Caicos last November, I came across an organization called Potcake Place (www.potcakeplace.com). This nonprofit organization rescues the homeless dogs on the island, and helps to get them adopted, when these animals otherwise may have not had a chance of surviving on their own. Many tourists go to the islands for a relaxing vacation, and end up finding so much more—a family member and lifetime friend. What a wonderful organization this is!
Even if you are not looking to adopt a dog, there are still other ways to help. If you are visiting T&C, volunteer to be a courier. It's a very simple thing to do, and the information about being a courier can be found on their website. Basically, if they have a home for one of the puppies in the US or Canada, and you can carry the pup home (in a provided carrier and they help you with all documentation/travel info), then you can help that puppy find his (or her) new, loving family.
You can also tell your friends, family, co-workers, and anyone you may know that is planning a trip to T&C about the Potcake Place organization.
While we were in the Turks & Caicos, we saw many potcakes. I've attached a picture of one I saw just running down the beach. At the airport on our way home, there was a couple that had just adopted a puppy, and were taking him to his new home to start his second chance at a great life. He was the 'life of the party' so to speak at the airport, and many passengers stopped to ask about the puppy and to learn more about the rescue organization.
