A travel journal to Subic Bay by RaquelKato

Subic Bay is only about a two-hour road trip from Metro Manila, so even if I only have the weekend off, I can still manage really good break. Beaches, restaurants, spas, bars - they are all in Subic.

Bayfront is one of Subic's newest hotels/inns which were made in time, intentionally or unintentionally, for the recent SEA Games. So being new, it has clean rooms and fully functional equipment such as shower heads, water closets, and air-conditioners.

We liked the room that we got because it was facing the bay and it was lovely going outside on the verandah in the late afternoon. My husband and I did not need to go outside to enjoy the view of the bay.

The rooms are built surrounding a small swimming pool. I found it quite charming. Something like the set of Melrose Place.

Selection in the breakfast buffet is limited compared to the full spreads that you have in big hotels, but it tastes good and fills your tummy, nevertheless.

This is a good place to stay for a couple or for business travelers. Families with small kids would love this, too, particularly because the pool is just there.

This is a favorite eating and chill-out venue for me and my husband whenever we take a vacation in Subic.

Coffee, though a bit strong, is good. Probably the best in the Subic area, even with the recent addition of a popular Australian coffee franchise right beside it.

The air is relaxed and cozy. We love having our main course inside the restaurant and enjoy coffee and dessert al fresco.

Must try their pizza, particularly for the crust, which is crispy but filling enough.

On our recent visit there, we tried their California-style pizza. It was also good. But I think their best bet is Big Ben, their house specialty—an overload of toppings! I also had Eskimocha, which is a cold mocha dessert drink topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup swirl.

Have also tried their other items. We liked the oriental salad with that delicious Asian dressing. Really perfect for summer. I liked the sauce on the spicy shrimp pasta, although the noodles were slightly overcooked. But, apart from that, it tasted good.

One reminder, though: food takes a while to be served. Probably because it is served freshly cooked. But it is worth the wait.

By the way, the place can be packed, especially during summer nights. Not sure if they accept reservation calls, but no harm in trying.
