I was born and raised in Alaska, so I've had the opportunity to visit many wonderful places in this great state. There is one very special place that I absolutely LOVE though, and that is Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge. Their website is www.alaskawildernesslodge.com if you want to check it out.

Stop Here for A Drink
Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge is nestled in China Poot Bay, about a 10-minute (if that) boat ride from Homer. I cannot describe with words how amazing this place is, but when you arrive, a transformation takes place within you. It definitely has a calming feeling, but also stirs such excitement to be able to visit a place of such extraordinary beauty. It is simply breathtaking and when you think about the amount of tenacity, love, and work Mike and Diane McBride put into building the lodge and surrounding cabins, it is awe-inspiring. Of course the food is mouth-watering, the views are unparalleled, accommodations are private and quiet, and at night you can hear the ocean lapping at the shore. There are so many activities you can choose to do, or just relax and do nothing at all. Hiking, fishing, bear viewing, kayaking, bird watching, etc.

Quick Tips:

Spend a few days in Homer if you can. There are so many fun things to do. For a local online calendar, check out www.cosmichamlet.net.

You can visit the art galleries—there are many talented artists in the Homer area and Homer was actually picked as one of the top art towns in the US.

You can beachcomb on Bishop's Beach and grab lunch at Panarelli's Deli or coffee and a yummy cinnamon roll at Two Sisters Bakery.

Carl Winn Nature Center is beautiful in July when the wildflowers are in bloom and the drive overlooks Kachemak Bay, which is stunning.

Make sure you take time to visit the Salty Dawg, either before or after your water taxi trip to or from the lodge.

There is a wonderful, award-winning museum, the Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitors Center, and so much more.

Homer in the summer is pretty busy, so you will appreciate the exclusivity and privacy of Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge when you get there.

Best Way To Get Around:

The lodge will arrange for your transportation via water taxi. There are no roads!
