Overview

Welcome to Calgary sign Photo, Calgary, Alberta
Quote:
Calgary is a vibrant, youthful urban center located in the foothills of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, a metropolis built on the fusion of urban life and rural life, of nature and culture.Located just two short hours north of the U.S. state of Montana, Calgary is the only city of over a million people for hundreds of miles in each direction. It’s a city whose western legacy lives on through heritage, not forgotten in the mad economic boom of the past few years. It’s a place where you can walk down the street in full cowboy gear from head to toe or dressed in the finest urban fashions, and no one will give you strange looks either way.Calgary is best experienced in its magnificent mountain s...Read More

This small Vietnamese restaurant is located right off of Macleod Trail at the very edge of south Calgary. It's easily accessible by the Calgary LRT via Bridlewood station, tucked neatly away into a mini mall.I visited Mimosa on a busy Monday afternoon during the lunch rush hour. I was seated by a very cheery Vietnamese girl, who served cold water in nice long-stemmed glasses while I perused the menu with my lunch companion. The menu was wide and varied. Dishes ranged from hot Pho's (Vietnamese noodle soups), to standard Vietnamese stir fry dishes, to fish congees, to a variety of hotpots. One dish I was too reserved to try was the Happy Surprise Crepe, which I was told would be deliciou...Read More

Calgary's premier Indian restaurant it's also its longest-running. The Taj Mahal has been opened to South Calgary patrons since 1973, serving up some of the most delicious northern Indian cuisine in sumptuous surroundings. It's perhaps the most recognizable Indian restaurant in Calgary, with its exterior looking like the Taj Mahal itself!Upon entering the restaurant from its small, somewhat shady rear entranceway, you descend down a small staircase into a basement. What seems like a very dingy restaurant is soon revealed to be one of Calgary's hidden treasures. Walking down the stairs, the beautiful model replica of the Taj Mahal, exuding such brilliance, can be seen directly in front of y...Read More

If there is one thing Calgarians love, it's tender, juicy Alberta beef, charbroiled on the grill to perfection. What better place to have all that and more than the Keg Steakhouse and Bar, located on busy Macleod Trail in the city's south end.The Keg is a chain restaurant that despite being unoriginal as a chain, serves up great food, and that's really all that matters, right?I come here often and fall in love again and again upon entering these cozy restaurants. The decor is brilliant - all wood, with couches, stylish cloth napkins, and burning fireplaces to make your meal that much better. To have an even greater meal, ask for a booth near the fireplace, and relax on your com...Read More

The Mongolie Grill is Calgary's premier Mongolian BBQ restaurant, featuring some excellent varities of fresh create-your-own stir-fries grilled hot on a huge Mongolian grill. The restaurant is part of an Alberta chain, with locations in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Lethbridge. The somewhat fancy restaurant caters mostly to the dating crowd, with some families and businesspeople intermingled in the mix.Walking into the restaurant, you will be greeted by some very elegantly dressed servers, who will lead you through the cherry-colored interior of the restautant to your table. Everything is wooden here, and the decor really adds to the ambiance. Maps of Mongolia and other Asian art gra...Read More

I first noticed the Moti Mahal Restaurant in my Entertainment.Com coupon book, where they are a featured restaurant. I read over the menu and my mouth was watering well before I walked into this establishment. Serving a mixture of Northern and Southern Indian cuising, specializing in Kashmiri dishes, the restaurant opens this relatively multicultural-less city up to interesting and unique food. The restaurant is located in the Midnapore Mall (a strip-mall), in South Calgary, near the edge of the city. Getting here is best by car—there is ample parking in the parking lot, and you won't have to fight for a parking spot for too long. This isn't a very big mall, with only a handful of stores. The r...Read More

This small, out-of-the-way restaurant is located in extreme eastern Calgary, so if you're coming here you probably have a reason to already, or just want to experience true Jamaican cuisine. Grab a parking space out front of the restaurant and head on in.Inside the restaurant, you'll find six or seven tables neatly arranged around an outstanding collection of Bob Marley, Jamaica, and other Caribbean Island memorabilia. The restaurant also has a good selection of Calgary Flames NHL Hockey memorabilia. The atmosphere is fun, youthful, and for a moment you will think you are in a small cafe in the heart of Montego Bay. The sounds of Jamaica are played on the stereo, whisking eaters away to the cl...Read More

Tucked behind a mini-mall in south Calgary, this hidden gem is a good, inexpensive place to have some great Chinese food without breaking your budget. While the exterior screams "80's", the interior is classy and comfortable, with around 15 tables and a cozy atmosphere. Service is quick and efficient, and the friendly waitresses will bring you cold water before taking your drink order. You have two choices during lunchtime at the Mighty Mango - you can order off of the extensive menu, or order the "lunch special". The lunch special includes one meat and chow mein or rice for $5.99, or two meats for $7.99. I opted to order off the menu, since I had a $11.00 coupon, but the lunch ...Read More

This South Calgary institution is well-known to locals, and is perhaps the city's most popular TexMex restaurant. It's a local landmark as well, with its signature chili pepper an easy-to-spot sight on busy Macleod Trail. We ended up going to the Santa Fe Grill at the last minute, an hour before closing. We were seated at a comfortable booth in the western-themed restaurant, with big screen televisions on each side of us. It's a great place to relax and catch the game with buddies, and the restaurant has some excellent appetizers and drink specials specifically for this purpose. However, we weren't there to party - we were there to have the best Tex Mex meal this side of Texas. The menu ...Read More

Calgary Exhibition and Stampede

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction

Quote:
Once a year, the city of Calgary comes alive and celebrates its western heritage through a ten day, massive rodeo-meets-fair called the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. This is the place to embrace your inner cowboy or cowgirl. It's a place to get your boots on and mosey on down the Midway with a stick of cotton candy and a freshly fried corn dog. It's a place to lose your stomach (and mind?) being tossed about on a death-defying ride. And if you're crazy enough, it's a place to try bungee jumping for the very first time. The Stampede is held on the second week of July every year, beginning on the Thursday at 6pm (sneak-peek day) and ending the following Monday. Each day has a special promo...Read More
