It is located in Mendon, NY and is about 30 minutes to Rochester, 25 minutes to Canandaigua, and 20 minutes to Bristol Mountain. It is south on hwy 64 just a few miles from downtown Mendon. There is a grocery store convenient store, video, pizza, and other small stores there. There is cellphone coverage here and it is needed since there is no phone. The house overall was such a disappointment. We expected more from the web pictures we saw (www.ldsliving.com/cabin/activities1.html).

When we pulled into the driveway, it had branches, leaves, and walnuts covering it. I looked for a rake and could not find one. As we arrived, there were no lights to find the key and door. I had brought a flashlight from home. Discover that the sensor on the light on the decaying barn has fallen from motion sensor view. Finally got into the house and it was rustic. You could tell that work had been done, but. The house had that old musty moldy smell. No one must have been here in a while, because bugs dead and alive were present. We looked around and our desire was to punt this place and stay in a hotel. There was dust everywhere and the carpet and floors were dirty. Cobwebs were left undisturbed on the walls. Bathrooms were dirty and soap-ring around the tub. The refrigerator was dirty and had blue sticky stuff in the freezer. The owner got someone to clean and it was better, but the tub was still dirty and the refrigerator had not been touched. I scrubbed on the bathtub with Ajax till I was fed up. Then I cleaned the refrigerator and made the bed (only mattress pad). The kitchen has a full size dishwasher, stove, and small kitchen table. The kitchen table was so low I  could not get my knees under it.

The countertops are wood. Plenty of dishes and cooking utensils. There is not a potato peeler, hot pad, dishrag, dishtowel. There is track lighting that does not work in the kitchen. Two lamps in the kitchen to help you see while you are cooking. There is a fireplace with antique elements in it. There is not a coffeepot. The dining room had a large table that sat six people. There was plenty of room. Items stored here did not pose a problem. There were-some accessories on a shelf that was leaning-forward. A little cabinet had dishes in it that were leaning against the glassdoor. Opening it, might have caused a dish to fall out.

Living room is very large. It has 2 couches and nice cushioned chairs. The couch has a broken leg and is supported by a brick. The fireplace was nice with the large mirror over the mantle. There is a TV with a DVD player, but no cable and no local channels. The wall clock did not work maybe battery was dead. Nice floor lamps provided plenty of light. There is windowpane out that goes to the heated porch. We bought DVDs and rented some in Mendon (drivers license – we were out of state). Downstairs was a 1/2 -bath and upstairs was a full bath with bath-shower combination. The door on the downstairs bath did not close, so we put a plunger in front of it. The upstairs shower leaks and water gets into the hallway below. The sink leaks unless you really turn the facets hard. The vanity mirror was nice and had plenty of room to store things. The utility room had full size washer/dryer and iron and ironing-board.

The house had four-bedrooms. The one downstairs had 2 twin beds but it was not heated well enough to stay in it. We kept the door closed. There were 2 nice bedrooms upstairs that had a queen-sized-bed in them and large closets. The 4th bedroom was off one of the upstairs bedrooms with 2 twin beds and there was no heat in it. It had more of an attic feel. The basement was of the source of the musty moldy smell of the house. We sprayed bleach and Lysol, but it did not seem to help. The basement has standing water in it. The barn roof sags. Caution. Due to the cleanliness level, unrepaired items, and the musty odor I would not recommend it.

While staying in the Rochester area, we went snow skiing at Bristol Mountain. The website is www.bristolmountain.com I had asked for email notifications for discounts, but they did not have any. If you have a Wegmans card, there is a discount on Saturday evenings for families. We would have taken advantage of it, but my sister's family wanted to go during the day.

We walked up to a booth to get our lift ticket and ski rental. They were helpful and graphically showed us which lift and trails were open. The rental equipment looked in good shape. The skis seemed to be new. This seems to be the only ski rental place in the area (we do not own our own skis). The people were courteous and helpful.

We were there in December after Christmas and the slopes were not that good due to the warm unseasonable weather. There was only one lift that was open. It was a nice high-speed four seater that seemed to have new seats. The lift seemed to be in good shape. We noticed seat replacement on an unopened lift while we were there.

While we were there, the slopes were primarily ice so the quality of the skiing was not good. I did not go on the black diamond, but the green slopes were well designed. The overall condition of the place seems to be well maintained. One day during the holiday it was packed, but we came a couple days later and it was almost deserted (poor snow conditions). Seemed like a place for families in the area.

The lodge had tables and shelves where you could store items. My sister brought food so it would not be so expensive. There was no complaint from management with us doing this. The lodge was maintained and the bathrooms were clean.

We had enjoyable time (in spite of the ice) and would go back the next time we are in the area.

It was a nice grocery store for such a small town. There was fresh produce and it was clean. People were very helpful and they took an out of town check. Got the freshly baked french bread one day. It was excellent.
